I am converting my website(of almost 50+ pages) to a wordpress website... ofcourse for easy content management and to make changes in the whole website easily and also for better SEO and increasing the serps...

i am feared that when i would replace the html website with the wordpress theme then i would lose all my search engine rankings because mostly the backlinks are anchored as mydomain.com/keyword1.html .. when i would shift to wordpress then links structure would change e.g mydomain.com/keyword1

how can i safely transition to wordpress form html without losing my current serps in google...? i think .htaccess would be the solution by doing 301 redirect... can any tell me in detail how should i proceed ...

^ Yes do whatever you can do to maintain your existing structure, including exact page names/locations.

I've converted sites to a different CMS platforms without the option of maintaining the exact filenames/structure and the results vary. Most of the time the changes do not make any significant impact and the 301's do their job. Search traffic is not affected, and usually increases. Other times I've seen sites drop out of Google for 1-5 weeks, which results in a massive traffic loss. This is temporary though, and the sites return to where they were, usually better off.

Why take the risk of a temporary traffic loss? If you can maintain your setup do it. Wordpress makes it pretty easy to maintain your filename extensions, main image directory, etc.

As mentioned, just keep the structure as similar as possible, the %postname%.html permalink template will work just fine.

For pages you cant replicate for any reason, there is a wp pluggin called redirection to handle 301s easily.

Also make your theme form your existing html if you can, and you dont want a redesign.
Basic WP themes are very simple to make.
