Copyright infringement

Hi guys,
I had a few questions to ask regarding copyright infringement

1. Where do you guys get your images from? Google? Can you be sued for that? I noticed that there are many photosites online such as stock photo that allow paid memberships, and these websites clearly state that using their images without their approval is a felony. My question is what about those that do not have such disclosure statements? Can we use the images from those websites without any penalty? Is a reverse image search adequate enough to check that it is unique?

2. I read somewhere that we can alter the image. However what does that imply. For instance if you look at the below image, I bet the image of the girl has been cut from somewhere (and lets assume the background was some nice scenery such as a island image, which again is cut out from another image). Does this constitute copyright infringement? The image of the girl and the image of the island might both have been photoshoped from elsewhere and pasted on top of each other?

3. Do any of you guys purchase envato offers or premium wp themes? Do you find that that is better/ worse? Why?

4. I read this somewhere on the forum, but what if we use a fake profile picture (that shows up as G authorship). Basically just any one random person from the 800m FB users in the world. I’m quite IM’ers use fake profiles, but anyone get affected/copyrighted by this?

5. I also hear that many people choose flickr photos and then reference the flickr member in their post. What are your thoughts on this?

Save yourself the trouble and invest in your own pictures. Yes you can be sued.

As a beginner, I can understand you are trying to do this on a shoe-string budget, but eventually down the line, when you start making money, you are going to start to worry.

This personally happened to me, and now I had to go back and change all my pictures. Now what worries me, is if I did indeed take down all the copyright pics. Should I have forgotten just one, it's gonna bite me in the ass.

There are free public domain pics online, and really cheap pic to buy. Do a google search.

BTW.... this topic has been covered. Please use the search feature on the forum.

Thanks for the reply Orion. Since you mentioned free public domain pics, those are safe to use right? Also, saw that I forgot to post up the image I talked about in the earlier post. Here it is

Hey there Jason. Its not a great idea to use licensed image's. If your tempted, you've got to rehash them in such a way so as they're not recognisable - which means you've got to go to a lot of trouble cutting out the portion you want - reformatting them - and hopefully coming up with a look you want. I use to do this but my photoshop skill are good but not Great. I'm finding that the main stream photo sites like istock, shutterstock etc are worth investing money in for some cool images. Yep - used flickr and yep you've got to refer to the source - no biggy - but most of the cool images are still privately held and they're looking to sell the license SO you back to the main stream sites again. Hope it helps. ShaneH
