So I'm either trying to earn money with this blog through adsense or some affiliate offers. The site is ForestCentral.com and all I've been doing is writing and putting up adsense. Now I realize that before I start making any money, I have to write at least 4 more posts and get a ton of backlinks but here's my question...

Is this site worth it?

So for all I have been writing is just random articles pertaining to either forests or trees. I'm trying to get many diverse visiters from Google but,
1. Will they click my adsense ads for relevent keywords of "Trees/Forests"
2. Are there any good AM offers that would be good for a site like this.
3. And will I get any traffic since my domain and information is so widespread.

I could spend a lot of time and get this linked and get some traffic, I just want to know if I could make it worthwile since ForestCentral is not targeted to one perticular thing because it is widespread in conjunction with the fact that the word "Central" is at the second part of the domain and the domain itself is not target and is also widespread.

Also, if you can think of any ways I could make this blog/site turn profitable it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a couple suggestions for things you could do in addition to what you are already doing. They both involve compiling databases that present information in a way that would otherwise be difficult to find:

Plant taxonomies by region and season. You could also include photos, but putting all this together yourself could be more work than you are willing to do. But, you would then have the ability for a user to view all plants native to their region at the time of request (season).

You would get a lot of kids looking stuff up for their research projects and other kids looking for where the pot grows, but you would have a relatively easy time getting users to sign up.

Information on public parks. You could get census data and other statistics to get things like parks that are currently open, parks that have campgrounds, etc., do price comparisons on travel agencies' vacation packages to a specific park.

I haven't read thru the whole post.

But basically keep posting, that keeps your viewers know your there and they'd want to come back for more.

and post relevant ads pertaining to your blog :)

i would move to another niche. If your going to invest alot of time into something, you may as well pick a niche were you can capture leads, sell products or get high paying adsense clicks.
With a site about forests, i dont really see how you can make money with it. I dont know what your getting per adsense click, but im guessing its not alot. And if you ever got banned from adsense, there wouldnt be any other way to monetize it.

A couple of things you could talk about:

- Forest Camping / Holidays ("Campsites Forest" seems like low competition - 8k visitors/month). Maybe you could write a top list of the major forests to visit. Or talk about specific holiday destinations like new forest

- The other thing would be Tree Care / Tree removal / trimming equipment.

I'd say rip off treehugger.com... post more green/vegan/ecofreak crap... maybe try some diet and niche dating ads...

not sure what else... imho, it isn't going to be a big earner... maybe if you can build a decent user base and sell it, it might make a few bucks...

btw, you might want to consider promoting some of those 'save the forest' charity things... it won't earn you any $, but might help boost the site's credibility...

I don't understand this thing about "4 more posts". I have blogs with 1 post that make money. Do people search for "forest central"'? What about tree trimming and sequoia trees? I don't know; I haven't researched myself. How is it monetized?/ What are people looking at trees going to buy?

Yeah I definitely think it would be a good idea for me to use the Google Keyword Tool and search for popular terms. Also one of the main reasons I'm using this domain instead of another one is because although it isn't targeted, the domain name ForestCentral.com is both brandable is easy to remember. I think this would make a good case study for people who cover a wide variety of topics in one adsense blog.

Looking for more ideas, help, and answers to my questions. Thanks!

Throw up some articles about organic food.
You might also want to remove or nofollow the footer links.

I like your site, and I think it has potential. I don't agree with what gdubs said above - that there isn't any possiblitly of monetizing it. I do think that the most queries you'll get right now are informational queries, where people look for information and not for products. Thus are in a non-buying mood. It's not impossible to monetize these queries though; just harder. But entirely possible.

There have already been a few good suggestions about what you could add to circumvent that - e.g. promote tree care equipment and also organic food / health oriented food. I think these are great ideas. I would add a section for that, maybe even an online store.

Organic food is relevant for people who are interested in nature. You can find out in time if your blog is attractive to this group by selectively targetting certain keywords in your posts and seeing how long the visitors that came in through them stick around, and what they do on the site. If you see potential, why not add an online store and give them what they want.

You're going to need to change the directoion of your blog else I agree with this guy

I see where you are both going with this, make the site for treehuggers and monetize with affiliate offers of organic/healthy food + adsense.

So right now I was just writing all sorts of types of posts on just anything relevant to trees and in an informational style. Do you think I should switch it over to a more personal posting style where I share my thoughts instead of just facts?

I wouldn't go personal style with the brand you have right now. You could of course create a weekly series where you appear as an expert and share your personal thoughts about trees... That's as personal as I would go with the name "ForestCentral".

I was thinking you've got a good chance by having some Greening FAQ pages that are separated from the blog itself.

The way I see it, you've got two major types of people.
Eco-friends and large scale Gardeners.
Both have a fair bit of stuff that can be sold to them.

For the eco-friends, you've got all the stuff people have already mentioned.
For the gardeners, you've got things like intensive gardening equipment, like drip-watering systems, tanks, services, etc. Things that would be low volume in sales, but high margin.
