I bought phpbay pro a few days ago using revenue I have made from my website. So basically it made it free to me. I have been reading up on how to target a niche and such to help me make a better decision. I just didn't want to target an over saturated niche like "cell phones" or something and have a ghost town for a site.

I know that golf balls have been used before, and in examples for phpbay. I am not stealing their theme, images, or anything. I aslo am not using the same type of golf balls. I found a keyword, "keyword here golf balls". Replace keyword here with a brand of specific golf balls. It could be like "Nike Pro Golf Balls". I am not mentioning the brand I chose so someone cant jack it before I get it up.

The keyword I chose gets an estimated 520 searches/day. Then checking the competition using the keyword phrase I chose in quotes using google, I got about 7,560 pages for the results. Now if I remove the s from balls, I get 403. So either keyword (using balls or ball) would be a low competition. When I check the estimated searches for ball I get the results for balls. I am using the SEO Book keyword tool to estimate searches.

So say that they keyword phrase was "Nike Pro Golf Balls". I got 7,000 google results and 520 estimated searches according to SEO Book. But when I used the phrase "Nike Pro Golf Ball" I got about 400 google results. But when I check "Nike Pro Golf Ball" using SEO Books keyword tool, I get the results for "Nike Pro Golf Balls". Notice the s on the end of balls.

Ideally, targeting the niche at 400 results would be amazing. Although 7,000 is still pretty good. In your opinion, should I target the "Nike Pro Golf Ball" at 400 results? Is there another keyword tool I could use to find out if it is getting searches since the SEO tool gives me results including the s on balls?

I am trying to really do my homework before buying another domain. (I used all my free ones that come with my hosting already).

Thanks in advance, and sorry for you who read my novel of a post :P

NOTE: "Nike Pro Golf Balls" is an example of the keyword phrase I chose. It is not the real keyword, but similar enough to give you guys a better idea.

Actually, if I really wanted to jack it I'd make a simple script to take every golf ball brand and see the searches for it and see which one comes out on SEO Book tools with 520/searches..

well... cya alligator and thanks!

there is a little more to the keyword than just the brand name. It is more targeted than just "brandnamehere golf balls". I'm not going to actually give out enough of the info, nore the exact numbers. It wasn't 520. It could have been 502 or 592. It is kind of liking saying 400 when it could have been 395 or 495.

And if you are actually doing well at ebay marketing, why would you go through all the trouble. Stealing someones research will get you nowhere. Learning how to do the research well will make you profitable. You may steal one "hot" idea, but when it gets saturated and stops profiting, then what?

Not to sound like an ass but the information you gave us, I can go and figure out what term you are looking at.

Reg the damn thing and worry later. People are buying domains all the time and yours could be snatched up any minute.

Keyword tracker might show you a little better. SEO uses it but I checked and it gives the ball and balls.

Here is an idea to maybe see how you do. Target the small one without the S good place to get your feet wet. See what you can do there maybe it will help your page rank and things like that. Then go for the bigger one.

I do not see why everyone does golf balls though. I seen one person do good and now everyone wants to jump on in.

I mean do you. I have nothing against it. Good luck

First off I think you're being too narrow picking something like "keywords here golf balls" .... Rgordon had the better idea of straight up 'discount golf balls' ... you see golf is too broad but golf balls is narrow enough to still have lots of ebay items and enough product information so that you can actually write something for the SE's to pick up. I don't think you could really have enough products and content to make a quality site with a super specific term like that.... although I could be wrong.

Second, taking "keyword here golf balls" is pretty lame. there are 1 gazillion other niches in the world to select and golf balls has been done by the guy that helped (probably you) and so many other people here get their phpbay start.

Finally, domains are cheap. These sites don't take long to put up and can still be good quality. Each site that I've posted has paid for the domain name within the first 2 weeks.

I thank you all for the comments. Honestly it wasn't my first choice. It was the first keyword phrase that got high searches/day and a really low competition. I tested out keywords like "unlocked cell phones" "apple iphones". Moved on from cell phones and tried a few other niches like baby clothes and such. I then remembered about someone mentioning golf balls. Just being curious a did a little research and came up with the keyword I found. I thought with the stats I found from the research, that it could profit.

I am still doing research, and have found one other keyword phrase to target for my dads site. He has a website already, but has 1 free domain left with his hosting package. I was going to set up a site for me and for him. His keyword gets about 500 searches and has around 300,000 results in google search.

I may find another keyword, but it was just the first one I said wow when I saw the searches compared to competition.

I think I will take the advice mentioned above and run the one without the s. I know that testing is the only way to find the true results, but wanted to ask a few people. I would rather have better odds right off the bat doing something, than have people say they could have told me it wouldn't profit from the start.

Thanks again for your quick replies. I love wickedfire, but people are too quick to flame. At least I wasnt asking for someone to give me a keyword or to be spoon fed.

Um. first of all https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

And secondly, I think it is kinda lame that you took rgordon's niche...even if it isn't the same exact thing. You're not the first either. A few other people have done it since he first posted. Here's why it's lame. He's completely open and helpful. I learned a hell of alot from that post. Then people like you come on and can't think of a decent niche for themselves and it makes people like him not want to actually help anyone anymore.

Which essentially means you're effecting my monies.

I think it's completely fucked up that you go after rgordon's niche.

Dude, or whatever you are- be original, be creative, & respect others when they've shared pretty much everything they've learned with us.

I learned a ton from him and he still helps me out, I have a very profitable niche now and owe a lot from rgordon's awareness of phpbay (although I went with EasyNicheStore).

So all in all I give you a -rep which neutralizes the +rep that was completely unwarranted by stack_paper.

Thanks for sticking up for me man, but no worries. Since its not the keyword i'm targeting, it really isn't direct competition with me anyway.

But Shudogg, i'll warn you that while my golf ball site looks sweet, it's me LEAST profitable site. Partly because i got real lazy with SEO as i started other sites that were making more. And partly because the sales are for so cheap. The REAL way to make money is to get tons of traffic and plant as many cookies as you can. Then you can still make some good money. (i once sold a $4k fridge throgh golf balls site.)

in the time it took you to write this post you could have made the site and tested it out

and what there is not enough niches out there that you have to jack rgordon's who taught you how to make the fucking sites - gtfo
