Crap designers

Do NOT deal with a dude named David from PliggSkins dot com. Oh, it looks like that site is suspended now. But anyway, he will tell you things about moving across country, terminal illnesses, pregnancies, and a bunch of other excuses, but will ultimately not deliver a single thing or even show you a hint of a design template no matter how many times you ask.

Two days ago I sent off word to them that I would like the template without the hideous banner graphics, I plan on hiring a graphics artist to do the graphics, and I expect a negotiated settlement to receive the partial templates. So far I haven't received a response. Before this gets ugly, how would you proceed? No response and no templates is a good reason for me to request a Paypal chargeback for the money I advanced them, but not sure I want to go there.

Advice, comments?

document everything. there is a window of time for a paypal chargeback i think - best check when you paid them and paypal policies. don't let them drag you past the chargeback window time frame.

Actually, you get 6 months to request a chargeback from a credit card, so I think I'm good for a while. I asked them to give me the template at a reduced price without the sucky graphics and they didn't respond to this. They must know on some level their graphics suck balls. Smarter people would hire out for just the graphics to a specialist.

So they finally answered me after I made my request for a fee reduction to compensate for the bad graphics. They refused to reduce the fee, saying that graphics weren't a part of the deal, and the graphics I got were voluntarily provided to "please" me. I backtracked and found a couple of initial pitches from them promising me a fully developed template with a theme as part of the deal.

Now I don't understand why these people don't have a designer on-hand to take care of problems like this.

Where do you guys find indians/overseas people to hire for these kind of jobs and are they cheaper?

You can find Indians on the reservation.

They're trying to convince me that I'm crazy expecting a logo and banner as part of a theme. A theme doesn't include PSD files, blah-blah-blah.

You might wanna try 99designs, not necessarily create a contest there... But you can see their work and just contact them directly. I found an excellent designer from the Philippines there.

i can see where they are coming from - look at the many themes for wordpress out there - they don't come w/ logos or psd files. a skin and a logo are two different things. good reason to have EVERYTHING spelled out ahead of time. if you like what they've delivered up to this point except the logo - pay for it, lesson learned, and get it live. it's not making you any monieis on their server.

One thing is missing - what did you pay them? 10USD and a basket of banana leaves?
Or you really treat them well, and paid them nice xxx upfront?
My point - there are a lot of people who forgot that one you pay peanuts you got monkey. Third world, ha? then go to freaking Ogilvi

I know who she's talking about, she didn't go cheap and pay em up front 10 or even 50. She paid what would normally get her a kick ass job done from some of the folks here at that price. So it was no peanuts deal.

10 or even 50 is not a peanut job? Yes, it is a tip you leave when you buy a peanuts.
Kick ass job for a pack of Trojans? dah
I spoke with few outsourcing management companies in Asia. The problem is misconception of todays' reality - some White-Supreme-Tight-Ass-Tight-Budget-Wannabees, they just don't get that there's no free cheese anymore.
Although I agree: 50 is more than 10. :jester:
and please, for the topic itself - I beleive the "crap designer" - is the designer of crap, sort of "bio-engineer" :-)

I hope you code better than you write, peanut guy. I paid these people enough to buy a condo in Bangalore, and I hope you sleep on a bed of wet banana leaves tonight.

condo in Bangalore, yeah?
well, for start - please put some numbers before you post, so at least there won't be mistakes. Second - I do respect Bio-Tech guys, buy isn't it forum for webmasters, not for "cant-poo, design-me-some-crap"?
Since Aug2008 - 500++ posts! its about 100 posts per month - amazing, bunnies on viagra are slower )))
Seriously, you are right about crappy freelancers - but should give some idea about numbers - to make sence. Else its kinda freaky

Ever seen the buy/sell forum lately?

I noticed that most folks who can't prove a point on the forum, often resort to attacking post count... as if that means anything relavant. But if you have that low a post count on a site like this, it means you're not performing as well in duplicating your signature content for the search bots :D.

While price is negotiable, its not immediately a determining factor of quality or professionalism. There's a few folks here on WF that'll pump out a 10$ logo, and can conduct themselves in a far more professional manner than the next guy over demanding 200$ for the same. Part of being a professional is having communication skills that won't at the very least make a mildly educated person wonder about you.

True, and a low post count means you've done a poor job of exposing the referral links in your sig, thereby losing out on affiliate commissions.

I haven't anything more to communicate with Mr. Peanut, who seems to have posted here to antagonize. The job particulars are between me and my trusted associates.
