I've found a catchy domain name that could possibly be used to create one of those sites that display random, funny things from the internet. Funny pictures, funny screenshots, etc., things that could potentially get likes on StumbleUpon and maybe a few Diggs.

If I were to slap AdSense on a site like this and occasionally update the site with funny pictures, would it be worth my time?

Is is still realistic to make money off of a site like this?

Is it realistic to make money off a site like this? Sounds like you just want a quick Adsense buck by posting some funny shit on a blog, which can be automated with RSS feeds from thousands of other shitty joke/fail blogs. I'm not going to say it's a flop off the bat, but do you have anything more ambitious? You'll learn more thinking big, and there's a lot less competition when you have bigger goals.

Since you're new, you're going to spend a shit-tonne of time on this since it'd be your 2nd site according to your sig. I'd like to say go for it just for the experience, especially to see what it's like being in such a crowded niche, but it's hard to even stick that to what sounds like just another LOLBLOG.

Until you get an intuition on what's reasonable and worth your time, it's better to err on the side off ambition.

Nope.

Seriously, one of my pet projetcs is a site like that. I keep it around for fun, but it makes fuck all.

All I can say is, you're not gonna become a millionaire making sites like this.

The market for generic fun blogs is just too saturated.

A blog post I found interesting 3 years ago: Make Money With A Video Blog - Digerati Marketing

I didn't re-read it and since it's been over 3 years since this was written, I'm sure it's less effective now. But it might give you some ideas? If you just want to make money and don't really care about the quality you might still be able to make some money if you're able to find some good niches and automate a lot of it.

The much harder but also much nicer and more profitable way would be to start a high quality site with a unique twist ( www.everythingisterrible.com comes to my mind). Or maybe there's a new meme/trend to exploit? Things like www.failblog.org, www.icanhascheezburger.com/ or www.latfh.com. Of course it's highly unlikely to get that successful but there's still room for a nice profit. Though that's definitely not the easiest way to make money.

Or Regretsy - Where DIY Meets WTF !

I remember coming to that site days after it launched and it was already buzzing.

Just found this:

Given that you launched Friday, how’s your traffic been?

I literally told one friend. And she said, “do you mind if I drop the link around to see how people react to it?” That day, Buzz Feed picked it up. Then Jezebel picked it up. The next day, Saturday, I had 900,000 visitors; 700,000 on Sunday. And two million each on Monday and Tuesday.

What an amazing idea.
