Dane Cook: you like him or not?

Found it odd to learn that a lot of people don't like this guy. I heard someone say he is a douchebag but for some reason I don't see it in his act.
 


It became cool to make fun of him. He got a bad reputation in the standup comic world for copying jokes.

If you watch any recent interviews with standup comics talking about Dane they actually like them now and are friendly and think he's talented. Just copying jokes is a big no-no and is an instant reputation ruiner for comedians. Especially copying jokes from Louie CK.

As far as I know Dane isn't trying to release any big specials and he was another comic that wanted to make the jump quick into acting.

Louie had Dane Cook on his show as well to show things are patched up + funny

Other comics that had their careers ripped apart in a similar way: Carlos Mencia + Denis Leary.

I actually think the dude is pretty funny. He just had a new comedy special on Showtime or Skinamax recently. Started slow and was pretty dark, but got much better towards the end. I think he went through a period where both his parents died and he stopped working for a bit. At least from watching a few small clubs he performed at on Youtube.
 
I liked the Retaliation CD, but a lot of the others weren't as good.

Don't like him. He's his own biggest fan and his hamming it up all the time detracts from what could otherwise be a mediocre to fair comedy act.
 
Some of his stuff is funny but I can't get over the fact that he's a douche bag and feels the need to laugh at his own jokes. I've seen comedians get away with the latter before but he's not one of them.

Most other comedians don't think that their act is funnier than the audience does.
 
I think he's better at branding himself than he is at making jokes.
