database and dynamic pages

Hi, i've been lurking on wickedfire for a month or so and thought i should start posting. for about the same time i have been teaching myself how to make websites with dreamweaver and have begun to need to do more "complex" things (i realize that they are still really basic). What i am looking for is the programming language and/or right type of database that would allow me display all the items that fit a specific category on a certain page. For instance if i had a poster site, a user could use a pulldown menu to designate that they were looking for all my beer posters, and all posters with the "beer" tag would magically appear on the page. thanks for any info.
 


The book "Learning PHP & mySQL" by OReilly is a fair introduction.

By fair I mean:

- I know programming, so it might be easier for me to pick up.
- The example code snippets have minor errors in them.

well i guess the consensus is php and mysql, time to get learning.
are there any other resources (books or online) that i should check out?
i will definitely look through the programming section too.
