what are some good ways to get traffic without breaking bank ? How do you compete against people dropping 100k a day on major keywords ?

I've thought long and hard, and the only solution seems to be spam and more spam.

spam works, and it costs nothing. However, if there was a better way to compete against big fishes who dominate the keyword ppc market, I would do it.

bump for some help.

What kind of site are you trying to promote?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is what you're looking for. Tons of great things on this forum to read concerning it.

Look for lesser known traffic sources?

I love when people say spamming and automated link building is free...apparently time has no price anymore

Minimum Time Spent on:

  • Keyword research
  • Competition Analysis
  • Filtering out the crap
Time spent if paying others for your automated link-building:

  • Finding someone who doesn't screw you over
  • Communicating what you want
  • Passing along your keywords
  • Checking if what they did was okay
  • Communicating feedback to them if they missed stuff
Time spent if not paying others for your automated link-building:

  • Setting up the program to run
  • Checking if the program is running okay
  • Finding sources for links
  • Importing sources of links into your program
  • Analyzing the results after a run
  • Checking if your backlinks stick
  • Talking with your server hosts
  • Finding new server hosts
Monetary costs of not paying others for your automated link-building:

  • Paying for the programs
  • Paying for the server
  • Paying for proxies if using private
As dchuk said - nothing is free. Everything costs something. Time is money.
