Wow. A solid plan crumbles before our eyes.

Not to say that you cannot make a go of your current path, but how did you come to the above conclusions?

Well, I decided to abandon having a trademarked product name in my emd because it would simply be a bad long term investment. As I was stalking competitors, I noticed two of them went dark. I was wondering why and did a little research. I hit the search bar and read up on my theory: c&d's. There are TONS of terrible stories about people getting c&d's and I did the math. Add being a broke student and the fact that I haven't really spent anything on the site and I got "abort" as my final answer. My other sites aren't doing bad at all so it really isn't a big issue. I'm just kind of disappointed because I know the holidays can pay well if you can ride the wave.

**noobview: Please do not hestitate to point out my retardedness.

OK Fine. I'll take that trademarked domain off your hands, no problem. j/k. Redirect with a 301 to your new domain if its the same niche and it has links.

The reason I say your plan is crumbling is because you started an EMD domain plan and now have deviated considerably. What you are doing is fine, but the original plan, at least as I understood it, has changed.

You are certain that the other sites were hit with a complaint or is that speculation?

I've already started shooting links at FAILBOAT and will redirect once the PR goes up. I might even keep it a part of a network if I don't get c&d'ed.

I can't say 100% but I'd rather not risk my money (I don't have lot) on an emd productproduct+words. Cerealcereal+words is probably harder to rank but is a lot safer.

I don't think it got derailed as much as you do. The point is still which is more cost effective to rank (total ROI) A (2.0 - custom content etc) vs B (MFA shit site). The scale just tips more in B's favor.

What do you think ?

Terminology!

Pardon me for being confused, but are "2.0" and "FAILBOAT" your codenames for your two websites? Is 2.0 some sort of Web 2.0 property and Failboat has something to do with Facebook (FB)? Or am I just reading too much into your codenames?

Keep at it!

Sorry about that.

CODENAMES:

2.0 - This site is MFA remixed. It has custom content, pictures, video, facebook. Basically everything but the kitchen sink.

FAILBOAT - This was 2.0 til I decided that risking more resources into an EMD that might be taken away was something I didn't want to do. It now has spun content.

PANDABAIT - Classic 5 page shit site that comes to mind when some says MFA. 2k words content (LSI) with a lot of ads (max allowed under TOS) and lots of offsite SEO

If anyone has suggestions to make this case study more readable please let me know!

Just jumping in on the EMD point, I had an EMDCoupon site. The TM owners jumped on it after I started ranking top 3 for the term, though they did honor my affiliate payments and the domain still points to my site.

I get the odd adsense click now as I dont bother to update it (still in top 5). Though I considered it a failed side project and just use it as a "link out" to my money site and awaiting till the domain expires to take it off my server :p

In regards to your "2.0" how are your promoting it on FB. I have I simple fanpage where I add a link to my new posts etc to add a backlink, and plan to build a few "shizer" links to it so I can get my fanpage to rank leaning on FB inherent authority. Apart from that I am at a slight loss.

This is what I want to avoid. With little funding I can't afford to take risks like these.

Hmmm. Since your site is aiming to be legit I would suggest taking a look at Powerfully Simple Facebook Applications | North Social. They have some cool things (like lock, discount like, etc) that are legit for fb fan pages if you can't make them yourself. You'll have to shell out cash for graphics if you can't do them but you can find some awesome providers on BST. You should also pad the number of likes. Padding will accelerate the organic growth of likes. It will grow organically after a thousand or so. You can buy decent targeted likes on BST. Once your fan page grows you can also use it as linkbait for various sites. You can put a viral videos, controversial topics and etc. You can also put the sites that need traffic as tab with linkbait labels.

Re-read LukeP's post and eliquids EMD case study and see if you are missing anything.

Yeah I'm rereading a bunch of case studies. I'm especially interested in LegitAM's content case study http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/144372-case-study-does-content-matter-emds.html because the bulk of my expenses (58%) is content. I feel that I am overdoing content with 1K lsi per page. The TAT also kills me because I have to wait a while for my articles. I think I'll be trying out text broker after I rank this site.

Also, check the source code when going to your site, are the H1, H2, etc tags as you want them to be?

I'm using SEOmoz free trial and serpIQ free trial to check my onpage. I built the silos and interlinked each page to every page with content/kw. I put the kw in the first sentence and the last sentence. There are 2 pics per page optimized with alt, description and title. I also linked out to 2 authority sites. I also tried to ninja a link in wikipedia. Hopefully it will last and pass some authority over to my site.

When you Scroogle and find your site, is the Title and Description what you want?

I say to do it this way because some people get confused in WP or confuse WP themselves with plugins etc. Checking what the site is actually feeding to the end user is a great way to check your work.

I hesitate to change anything because I have not ranked the site yet. I will split test after I have ranked #1 or get significant traffic.

Are you using a cache plugin for speed?
No. Is it necessary ? Any recommendations for WP?

Hey Hale, I'll just ask you since the forum search function is broken (srs) and my google searches have turned up absolutely nothing on the subject. How are you finding out where your sites rank in Google for specific keywords?

http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-tracker/ they have a free and paid option, it's good

Keep chipping away at it bruh. What's the problem? Just not as far along as you expected at this point?

I use a variety of services to check my rankings + links:

Serpfox - The intelligent keyword rank tracker
serpIQ - The Ultimate SEO Research Toolset
Ahrefs - Backlinks & SERPs Research Tool

W3 Cache is good and Cloudflare is a free CDN for basic use. I used it to good effect before I moved my site to be fully https compliant. (they charge for that).

I added w3. Thanks!

Yeah. Maybe I'm doin' it wrong. Or not. I guess it's the fact that I won't know instantly. I also have to resist the natural impulse to do something stupid like throw a bunch of shit at it at the same time.
Maybe I need to index my links? I hesitate to index my bookmarks/links with a service/ping them 2x a day because I want it to look natural.

Other results not related to case study:
DO NOT SHOOT45k blog comments directly at a site - it will dance and vanish despite being emd.

Onsite SEO

Dear Diary,

With pandabait dropping a rank, I decided to reexamine the site. I decided I wasn't going to leave any money on the table so I looked over the articles again. Magicink is definitely recommended http://www.wickedfire.com/content/1...ly-content-premium-lsi-articles-021-word.html as I did not have to do too much editing. He also offers an html .txt file so it's a lot easier to manage.

I made sure I completed all frontpage onsite SEO for Pandabait. It scored 100% for serpIQ, clickbump SEO plugin for WP and 95.65% for Easy WP SEO plugin (Easy WP requires you to have a keyword density of 4%-5% which would make it seem unnatural)

My onsite seo checklist was based simply on the plugins. I don't think they are all necessary but since I don't know jack shit and haven't tested anything I decided to go with all of them.

I don't know what else to do to the site. I really can't do anything until my blogpost reports come in and observe the change.

I did notice a curious thing with my pageviews
