Dear Diary,

I pinged all my links (bookmarks,contextual blog posts, harry articles) using http://pingdevice.com/. In retrospect it was probably a bad idea but the sudden drops in SERPs made me panic.

I also started doing some manual linking using

are you concerned even @ #3 you are only making $0.12 per day - you thinking your traffic or cpc estimates may have been a little off? (e.g. search network bids vs content network). Not trying to rain on the parade here but even if you make 5x that at the #1 spot, you're looking to break even on initial expenses sometime late in '12.

Hmm. I agree but I guess the point was to rank it. I also haven't used anything else to monetize except adsense. I'll be putting out a list of things that I SHOULD NOT have bought along with a chart and timeline showing SERP jumps with the services bought during the period. I'll also do an in depth review of the reviewers I bought from (i.e. mediocrity, lateness etc.)
 
Math Time

Here is what I used to forecast:

2900 exact monthly searches x 40% of the searches in the top spot / 30 days per month = 38.6666667 visitors per day

38.6666667 visitors per day x 3% click through rating = 1.16 clicks a day

1.16 clicks per day @ 1.91 x 60% revenue share = $ 1.32936 USD per day or $ 39.8808 per month

Some things to remember:

1. My theme is shit and not optimized (hence the smart pricing).
2. No other monetization except adsense ( I feel that amazon would kill it. If not kontera, infolinks, medianet or even offers from networks).
3. Not enough traffic to split test because of rank ( I haven't whored it out on reddit or buzzfeed or twitter or facebook).

All in all this was more of a lesson, a very expensive lesson I might add. I hope things will get better when I scale. Honestly, under the new protocol I will be using, I would have dropped this site already for nonperformance. There are cheaper and easier niches to rank.

Consistent massive effort will earn you money. At the beginning it's foolish to worry about "how much money" because any is more than none. Just take action. As long as you don't do obvious things that will get you banned or deindexed you'll be fine. You can always tweak your methods along the way and go back to those early sites. Just keep moving and refining your system!
