I just bought a brand new laptop for $1600, this piece of shit crashes more than my old Gateway. I should have just bought something used off ebay for a couple hundred.

This is why I will never and have never bought anything Dell/Gateway =x

Sony fo life nah I mean?

same thing happened to me, try getting one of those cooling pads for laptops

works great

My dell is freakin awesome compared to the POS Alienware I had previously. (Yes I know Dell now owns Alienware).

My alienware came with bad parts and overheated a ton... so far the dell has worked AWESOME and lasts 3x longer, no heat issues, etc.

Send it back get a new one and I bet you'll be happy.

Gateway, HP/Compaq = POS!! And Aleiwnare ;)

Yeah it's nto dell it just depend son the unit you get.

That's with any vendor. New units are untested in a home environment and they are mass produced so the law of averages mandates there be a few bad ones.

I just bought a loaded inspiron 1705 and it is flawless. Even playing games.

The XPS systems are pretty damn good actually. I have a desktop from them, nothing but good stuff to say about it, so far.

I had a dell dimension 5010 or something and that was fantastic, quiet as a mouse and no problems what so ever.

I also have an acer travelmate and a dell XPS, both very good laptops.

Bad luck buddy

I have had good luck in my life with dells. From the 386-16 I bought for 3k, to my current laptop.. Can't complain.

Sorry yours sucks.

friend of mine (and I agree with him) came to a conclusion that all dells have a problem within the first 3 months, but if you fix it the machine will last a few years without any more problems

I have an XPS Laptop, I got my bro a 15" Laptop non-xps (forget model), my parens run a Dell nonXPS desktop runs good.

I'd never run any pre-built computer for my desktop but for a laptop that I useo nly when I travel the laptop works well above my expectations. Also the 'larger capacity' battery reallly makes a difference.

In the end I wish I would have gotten a 15" LCD isntead of the XPS's 17" for longer battery life, ease of use(kb position), and overall smaller footprint.

I have the dell xps m1710 laptop (yeah the one you see in the commercials)
I was really worried about 2 things. First thing Laptops screens are notorious for sucking very badly. The LCD on this laptop is BY FAR the best screen of anytime i've ever seen. They have certainly taken a negative and turned it into a positive. The other thing I was worried about was the keyboard. Well, it took about 2-3 days to get used too. The only problem I have no is using a normal keyboard. This one is way too comfortable for me to move back to a standard keyboard. It is bar far the best thing i've ever purchased. Even better once I learned I could turn off the runway lights and had planes trying to land on my laptop. Absolutely No problems. No lockups. No crashing. Nothing but solid proformance. The only thing lacking is all the junk software that comes readily installed on it (thanks I really didn't need AOL)

oh, someone said something about alienware. Have you seen the SLI technology that is now available? Makes me almost willing to sell this thing on ebay to afford the upgrade.

Ah, i remembered another issue. The back cover (you know the black glossy side...) It scratches very easily not as easy as an IPOD but almost. Dell needs to fix that.

You bought an electronic device. shit moves causing heat! shit can break, nothing anyone can do about it. Dell has good warranty service and when you get one that works fine you can use it for quite some time. Also dell is great because of resale value. The price on a referbished dell is historically higher than any other machine. I spent several years in the refurbished computer business and it took me 3 months to decide not to deal with anything else but dell. sure I would by a sony or hp but there is not much resale value on parts etc. Dell by far has the best product including fuckin Apple shit!

If alienware's computers WORKED I would be all for them... they can say they do cool stuff but in the end mine was a major pita I had to warranty tons of stuff. video card the day I got it, cd rom, etc, etc.

Dell is shit, my parents bought 3 monitors for kicks (even though we only had one computer and no graphics card) and all the monitors shaked to the craphouse. Piece of crap they are
