I've got an idea for an App, which platform should I develop it for?

Is there anything out there that allows cross development? ie. develop once an port to both platforms?

Never developed a phone app before so any advice would be great.

No there's no cross platform development. You want to write each in their native language C# and Java I believe. Develop for both platforms but also look at your market...Android is more of the geeky type of people that want "freedom" and to be able to hack it, where as iOS is generally your mainstream market and want it to just work.

If you want to make money, make iOS apps. It doesn't matter that there are more Android phones out there, people simply buy more apps on the iOS platform. Apple did a good job of promoting the app store and encouraging users to spend money there, whereas Google did fuck all like they always do with everything because they suck at being human.

You can do cross platform dev with tools like Phonegap or Appcelerator Titanium but you'll never get a 100% experience with them.

Also, iOS is objective-c, not c#. C# is on windows. Android is Java.

Thanks for the correction, I never had any intention to ever develop apps I just remember iOS using some form of C...

Also the android market place sucks...app store is so much nicer.
