Ok I have been thinking of this question a couple days now and I think I have it concise enough to post.

The ultimate reply I would like to see in this thread (from an absolute expert) is "Yes Webjedi, you are entirely correct in your thinking".

If not, I would love to learn how this works. Here we go:

The scenario: Let's say I own an EMD.com for the keyword "dog training" and I have 3 articles, great SEO and everything else I need to rank the site #1 in Google.

Let's say that the KW "dog training" fetches (cough) a CPC of $5.00 from Adsense.

Now Google has determined that I am the BEST resource for "dog training" and thus made me #1 and in essence serves ads that are tightly related to "dog training" on my site. So in a perfect world I am getting $5 per click.

Now I start to add more articles. "dog training collar" "dog training by beating" etc. All of these articles are within my theme of dog training but here is what I am wondering, as more articles get added, they start to rank on their own, now "dog training by beating" is ranking number 1 for that KW.. Google then serves ads on that page that are related to "dog training by beating" and the CPC for that term is $1.

When a user clicks on the home page that is ranked for "dog training" do I get adsense ads that are related to dog training and dog training by beating?

If I broaden my site with a ton of articles all within the theme, am I going to dilute my overall adsense value?

Right now I am ranking for a KW that has a CPC over $40. I am afraid to add more articles unless they are specific to the KW that I have ranked for, for fear of diluting my site's tight theme and thus getting lower CPC.

Is the URL being ranked for a KW based on the home page or the site as a whole? Wont I destroy my rank for that KW by adding articles ?

My guess is that I will not and everything will stay the same except I will add more KWs to rank for and have more pages in the niche and my CPC will stay the same for the home page that has the rank for that word.

Is this the case WF experts?

Ads being served are going to be the ads most relevant to that content on THAT page.....And/Or... based off the persons search history or click history (can't do anything about this so don't worry about it).

Additionally Google is in this game to make money as well.

They want to serve the most relevant ads based upon the content on the page... and of those ads... the HIGHEST PAYING relevant ads.

BUT! Remember that your SEO and Adsense are separate.

You could/can use a #1 ranked $2CPC keyword to drive traffic to your site that serves up $40CPC ads because your content has been determined by google to be relevant for that ad.

So basically.... If you're showing ads for a $40CPC kw on one page. Be careful when tinkering with that page's content but don't be afraid to rank for other terms on other pages and/or rank that page for other keywords via off-site anchors or whatever.

Make sense?
