Diversifying revenue base away from AdSense

the thing is adsense can be better than parking..but it's like going from slavery to indenture servitude...

parking is really dumb for a lot of reasons, but the worst is that you don't get domain age since that is calculated from when the search engines first index the domain's content (and domain age is a big deal in at least google's ranking algo). just throwing up a paragraph of content and a wordpress blog is 1000x better than parking a domain, and takes all of 5 minutes.

i'm guilty of it myself, i have probably 50 domains parked right now that shouldnt be, and that earns me like $5 every six months, but really its not smart.

Hey, you can still get your sites indexed if they're parked. Social bookmark spam.
There are some parking providers that are offering something a little better than ad feed, but they're few and far between, and still not that great. I've got a couple domains with iMODO as a test at the moment. So far not as good as traditional, but at least they're trying to make a better service.

Whoever manages to make a service that basically feeds off of Amazon, and just configures a store based on a set of tiered keywords, will rake it in hand over fist through lazy domainers looking to park, I reckon.
The aggregate sales would add up to a hell of a lot, might even get up to that 15% tier, and you'd be able to offer the domainers something like 8%, which is way more than they'd make through Amazon on their own.

I am monitoring Adsense income against Google's quarterly income report. Whenever they are "in need" of a good quarter for the stock holders and Wall Street the Adsense income goes down - starting about 6-8 weeks before the end of the quarter. Happens 1-2 times per year since 2005 according to my internal records. Income will pick up about 10 days to a week before the quarter is over.

Well the thing is Google has premium partners like the NYTimes where their payout % will be much higher. I think it's like 80-90%. You can bet that the % is much lower for us than the % released in the public earnings statement.

And yes, Google AdSense = Indentured Servitude. Fortunately I started diversifying maybe 6+ months ago but AdSense is still my #1 source of income. It used to be the majority, but that's history if this month doesn't have a serious pickup. My AdSense income is down 30% (concidence conv3rsion?). I'm going to come out of this stronger than before...
