Do Blogs really make money?

Some can...but not too much. Mine makes a little I guess. Enough to pay for the dedicated server and a bit extra, but definitely not proportional to the effort it takes.
Just like a web site, it depends on how much traffic you are pushing, what type of offers you run ect. Of course they make money

seriously tho, yep. my automated blogs pull in six figs a year. 20 mins a day tops deleting flagged 'articles', confirming system requests to autopost to article sites etc. Easiest money I ever made.

Blogs can make money if:
A. You have a ton of readers
B. You use them to promote products and services (ie, use them as a marketing platform)
C. You do paid reviews
That being said, if you're one of the thousands of people out there who create John Chow clones, no, you won't make any money.
I have a small blog with ~100 readers, and I've made enough with it to pay for my web hosting for 1.5 years. Making money is not the point of my blog, so I don't sell ad space and pretty much tell advertisers who approach me to (politely) fuck off.

Last I heard that one 125*125 adslot costed 10k a month -- Multiply that by number of ads there.
There is also adsense and some other ads. Apart from that, a job board and other blogs in the network. Do the maths.
