Do I even need to do SEO?

Question to anyone who preaches SEO: how much time/money do you spend on your SEO? Because in my experience it is way too much time and money that goes towards something which is quite uncertain, whereas with PPC it's very quick to make a site (and cheaper to get someone else to do it than with a SEO-site because you need way less content) and all your money goes towards testing keywords which give you data that you then use to make a profitable campaign from - a campaign that often lasts for a long time.

I used to rely on SEO for my traffic. Ever since the latest Google updates I've found it to be very unreliable and unpredictable. So, I've started moving over to PPC.

I actually run a network of sites in the same niche, with one money site and multiple mini sites, each promoting similar products within the niche. The mini sites are all EMDs so they usually rank nicely.
However, they're all dancing about now, and I've more or less stopped investing in SEO with them since I don't really see that as something I can stay with long term.

My question is, would you guys recommend running multiple campaigns for different sites using the same keyword? Would that increase your exposure and therefore get you more clicks, or would you effectively be bidding against yourself and therefore actually increasing your CPC?

It takes about 3 seconds to press my big red "DO SEO NOW" button and it's free.

It's not like PPC is completely immune to the actions/whims of a few concentrated sources, similar to the way SEO results are. Sure, I guess SEO is more volatile. Some of it is perspective and experience. If PPC is "easy" for you, congrats. I always found organic traffic marginally easier to build and sustain, based on the methods and niches I used. I still get paid (not bragging, because it's not much, but it's tangible) off sites I haven't touched in 7-8 years that have organic traffic, and other sites that don't even exist anymore- but that's a different subject.

SEO isn't free, but I think it's worth at least a little investment.

The biggest issue I see with most SEO campaigns is that they are rarely about providing value for the customer. Something that creates value is more likely to organically grow. Instead I see SEO companies putting out trash articles etc that do nothing more than clutter the web.

I do both PPC and SEO. I collect data first with a PPC campaign to see what keywords produce the highest conversion rates/lowest CPA. Then, of course, I go after the keywords organically. A combination of PPC AND SEO is going to produce the most traffic and conversions. What don't people understand about that?

Yes, PPC can be more predictable, but it's not completely immune to change, obviously. New cats come up all the time with insane max cpcs jacking up costs. Also, if you're in a heavy promotion niche, that shit changes all the time, so you have to constantly adjust your ad copy and landers to stay competitive.

You guys are leaving a lot of money on the table if you're not targeting high ROI keywords with BOTH. When done correctly, your SEO is going to have staying power and is going to make you a lot of money.

Hi, I had an SEO meeting this evening with a consulting agency. They advice me that Google frowns upon using affiliate links for new content. We source products through a variety of affiliate program such as amazon and eBay, as well as affiliate networks such as CJ, Link share etc. So I think SEO is not much necessary for affiliate but would be great if you meet SEO for your affiliate. Thanks !!!

lol at shawnhag on how he doesn't know to do SEO.

I find SEO easier in terms of ROI because once you find the keywords that give your site that highly targeted trafic that you need then the rest is easy peasy.

As for the other, PPC is much more about testing and finding from where the targeted traffic is coming.

Both are profitable if done good.

You can't compare these things, you either want bigger profit or not. If you want one part of the cake then do PPC, if you want another part of the cake then do SEO too. If you want all the cake then do them all, from SEO to PPC to emails to video marketing and any other kind of traffic generation. Depends on the business/market too.

SEO is a long term traffic generation strategy. It's a science to keep in mind while you concentrate on driving traffic fast. You need real people right away to make bank. So advertise, market your content, populate your blog and mailing list now! Spin your wheels.

I would run an SEO campaign, its just more money in your pocket, and now you know which keywords convert best for you

I would do PPC in the short term and SEO in the long term. White hate SEO takes time to show any results.

I am doing PPC for more than 4 years and so far has been effective with my campaigns. It brings results faster and is also better in the long term if you build your campaigns the right way you will pay less money and be on top positions also the traffic is much more targeted and converts better than SEO.

It is not necessary, but you might end up leaving a lot of money on the table for those particular keywords/niche because Adwords results get less traffic than organic results.

That being said, it depends what you find easier:
- Rank the keywords that are already doing well thru PPC and get organic traffic
- Start more PPC campgaigns and expand into different niches/markets
