Does reinistalling Vista (Ultimate) erase all of your files?

with my laptop and I'm just about ready to try to reinstall vista ultimate over the existing version of vista. I know this isnt the best way of doing things but if it allows me to backup my files and then later do a format/fresh install of Vista after, then its something that I will most likely do.

Can anyone confirm if reinstalling Vista Ultimate over the existing Vista Ultimate OS will erase all of my personal files?

Reinstalling Vista over Vista will not erase your files.

Ok, thats what I thought. Is there anything I should be backing up ahead of time, like settings and such? (if i even find a way to backup stuff that is?)

Backup the Users folder

Yeah, just get a DL-DVD and ghost your drive, or at least the folders you absolutely have to have.
