i'm often am wasting time doing things that aren't necessarily relevant or integral to what i need to be doing for my business. i would like to find some kind of software where i can easily have pop-up notifications appear on my laptop screen every 15 minutes or so. these notifications will say things like "are you doing something important" or "is what you're doing worth it?" i need to treat myself like a little child so i can stay on top of my game. my brain doesn't work.

i use a mac, does anybody know about something like this for mac osx?

lol wut?

Ok. There are these desktop buddies you can use. My cuz has this guy who keeps coming up and telling her a joke and stuff. Deskbot is what you should be looking at.

I'm sure you could find a suitable person on odesk to message you on skype every 15 minutes =P

I think you can set up rescue time to do this. But, as you're a Mac user, like me, I recommend you download SelfControl, which is free, and put your computer in lockdown.

It will prevent you, no matter what you do (you cannot get around it - to my knowledge), from visiting sites you put in it's blacklist until the time is up. I often put the slider up to 7-8 hours and ban myself from here and a few other places. Also, if you set it up as shown here, then you can automate it to run at specific times for x number of minutes.

Also, if you want reminders, you could easily accomplish that using Growl and some AppleScript I'd have thought. Maybe even using Growl and iCal or some other calendar timer app.

Anything a bit more elegant than Deskbot?

Actually, after playing around with the settings, Deskbot is just fine for this. Edit the "Say time" option to say what you want, then right click the tray icon and select "Hide". It does a very good job of getting you ass in gear without having that ugly MS agent character around for too long.
