It has never crossed my mind to sell a domain, but somebody just contacted me to buy a domain i have. They asked me to make an offer.

The domain is ssd dash review dot com

After reading a couple of threads here I still have a lot of trouble figuring how much it would be worth now, or later.

1. I think SSD will be growing and become big someday
2. I don't have the time or to develop right now, but with low budget i can be made to rank and be more valuable later. Now I am busy with another project but I could focus on this later.
3. I think it's a great domain for the topic
4. I've had a Wp blog on it with a dozen posts for a few years. getting 50-100 uniques per month. 5-10% direct the rest organic source.


What would be the ballpark on this currently? Potential later?
How do you negogiate in this field? ( factor to bring up, etc )
Given it's current state what would you do with it? (say, if they give X$ then A else B)

Find out as much as you can about this person/company.
What's their intention with the domain name?

Since he/she contacted you first, he/she already know your domain has value.
So, there is no reason to mention any factor.

Don't send long reply.
Instead, send real short one.

Ask them to send offer.

You should know their initial offer.

It has great impact.
It will only mean $xxx if buyer want to use the domain for cheap adsense site.
However, if buyer want to use it for full scale website selling tons of SSD, surely
buyer will value the domain much higher.
 
Oh, but that is for his internal valuation. He will surely not tell me if he has GREAT plans for it.

Is valuation similar to a business? Yearly Revenu/Profit * Multiplier? Multiplier depending on popularity of keyword, growth potential and name brandability.

When I get inquiries on my domains, I always check the names in LinkedIn. Find it to be an easier way than Google, can usually figure out who the person is since LinkedIn provides more context (where they work and live) than Google.

Domains with a dash tend to not be worth much, but at least it is a .com

If the buyer is corporate, pitch them a number under $500. I usually do $479 or $379. Many corporate buyers don't need to get the boss' approval for purchases under $500.

Some may tell you if you ask properly.
I had 5 letter name which seemed random.
You won't find anything on acronymfinder.com about that 5 letter domain.
I told the buyer I am not looking to sell, but, he can send offer and
asked him to tell me what he's going to do with the domain.

He told me what he's going to do with the domain and I ended up selling
the domain for mid $x,xxx

I really did NOT want to sell the domain, but, that wasn't small amount either ;)

There is no written formula for the domain pricing.
It depend on...
How bad do you need money?
How bad buyer need the domain?
How much can buyer afford?
What amount will make you happy?
Is there alternate name for the buyer?
Plus many more...

For the exact same domain, one buyer may value it at $500K while other may only value it at $5K.

Just couple months ago, one person registered a domain.
Sold it for $1,400
Is that good return?
Yes, it is.

The new owner sold that same domain for $151K one month later.
Is that good return?
Yes, it is.

SSD is already a big market.

What can cause a similarly great value increase? (just in general)
Someone who realised they desperately need it?
Or some crazy link-building to get it nicely indexed? Perhaps the guy actually developped a nice brandable profit making e-business on it?

If you have insight into such cases, I'd like to hear some example. Just so i get an idea.

Got an offer for mid $ XXX.XX

I think it should keep it. With some development, I think it could be worth mid to high XX,XXX.XX
I might be wrong tho.
