Hello,

Having a web site done by Hyper 6 and then having ccarters professionalism advise added afterwards.

So far loving the site, but not the domain it will be sitting on. My question is with a high quality web site by hyper 6 and eventually ccarters suggestions added how important will the domain be towards the success of this.

I fount a awesome domain name 2 words perfect fit for the site I am having done. However they are wanting 3k for this domain. Now I am thinking long term with this website so I am okay with investing a lot into it. However I do not want to pay 3k for a domain name if in the end its all about website quality.

I just wanted to get some input from people that been branding websites for years opinion on this.

Branding is essential to the success of a company. If you have the perfect domain name, and they are asking $3k, it's worth the $3k.

First and foremost, if $3k is the asking price, offer them $1500. Nobody pays full asking prices for domain names. You should be able to get it discounted by at least $500.

The domain name/company name is one of the most important parts of any company. It is what people experience first about your business.

This kind of seems like a silly question when I feel like you already know the answer to this.

Premium Domain name + Hyper6 design + Quality Content = Good start

Shitty Domain Name + Not great design + crappy content = may as well not bother.

Thank you very much. I had a idea it mattered, But i have spent a lot of time reading these forums lately and talking to a few people and for the most part i have read or heard where content is key. It's sells the page. So i have 1 decent domain name for the site, and one crappy domain name for the site. When i seen the other that fit my site to a tee I was gonna just buy it. However reading how its all about the content I wanted to be 100% before I Invested 3k into a domain.

Thank you for your advise about trying to negotiate for a lower price. I will see if i can locate the Domain owner but it is being resold on go daddy and not sure if that info will be available to me.
 
I have a similar problem a few years ago. i paid about 3.5k for mine they wanted 5. thinking back now... it was a steal. also great for seo. go for it branding is everything.
 
Step1) Perform a whois search, send him an email and wait. In most cases, even if he's using whois protection, the email you'll send to dsadhjkdahdjshk@icanhasprivatewhoisplz.com or whatever the email address generated by the whois protection system is will be forwarded to the email address he has on file with that registrar. It's worth a shot because by dealing with the seller directly, there are no commissions involved and that's a decent advantage.

Step2) If he doesn't reply or you don't want to wait anymore, visit Sedo.com and BuyDomains.com and perform a search for that domain. If he's a domainer, he might have listed it there as well. Both Sedo and BuyDomains have lower commissions than GoDaddy and as a result, the seller might be willing to accept a lower price if you handle this transaction through one of these venues.

Step3) If nothing works and the domain is genuinely worth it, pay the $3k. Paying $3k for a good domain is definitely NOT a mistake. In fact, if we're talking about a long-term project you're serious about, it will probably be one of the best acquisitions you've ever made.
 
Don't spend $3k on a domain for branding. Use a tool like LeanDomainSearch to try a few word combinations and you'd be surprised what you can register for $7. Just don't use "CPA" in your network name, or a farm animal...

Think of some of the better networks out there - without their brand equity, the domain itself wouldn't be worth much.

Just with a quick search I found StackBank.com, ConnectOffers.com, CoastalClick.com, RebelClick.com, ClickChase.com, ClickCreators.com, LegacyAds.com, etc, etc, etc - all for $7.

Save your money for the actual branding part.

lol thank you as your advice was very helpful seriously. However this isn't to rebrand a network if i do decide to change names id be going back to my old one as i loved it.

This was for a credit report site I am having done by hyper 6, has several sub pages including a how to repair damaged credit page.

The domain was called creditcontrol.com, I seen that and thought nice fit for what I am having built. My only fear is not spending 3k. My fear is paying 3k and nothing comes from it cause i know the credit report vertical has a lot of competition and can become very expensive with PPC.

My bad, I assumed you were rebranding your network. As far as CreditControl.com, it's a decent domain but not for $3k. Anyway, you can use the same method as above with terms like "credit" to find something for reg fee. Good luck.
