is will run as slow as shit

I made the mistake of buying a laptop with vista home basic installed and it runs slower than my xp laptop. It takes 3 minutes jsut to boot up and opening a new IE window takes almost 30 seconds.

Get XP..demand it. Vista + laptop=shit Its like trying to run windows 95 on 386

Vista is a resource hog. It takes a lot of memory to run it.

Vista is dope. You just need to know how to buy a laptop. In this case you probably got less than 2GB of ram.. oops!

2GB of ram? **** only the most expensive laptops have that much.

whats the point of having an operating system pre installed if it doesn't have enough memory to run?

To make money off people who don't know better. Like the person who started this thread. Read a bit before you buy.

Um, yeah, you have to have at *least* 2GB, but then I would have given the same advice before Vista came out. :)

So now I'm gonna need a a quad duel core P5 pentium procesor with 2 gigs of ram and 1000 gigs of hard drive to surf the web and download files smoothly on vista?

what a scam.

All the computers that run XP run fine and don't ahev advanced processors and lots of RAM.

My P4 dell from 2004 surfs the web faster than my new vista laptop

Somethign is seriously wrong with that picture

Just a pet peeve: you don't have to sign your post. We all know it's you. Thats why there is something called a username.

I bought a HP laptop with Vista Home Premium the week Vista came out and IT IS THE BEST PURCHASE I EVER MADE. PERIOD. Vista is the best desktop OS ever (for me anyway). Also, everyone agrees that Home Basic is a piece of crap and the most useless OS ever, so I can see why you don't like it (no DX10!!)...

yeah vista rules IMO - I am running it on my desktop with a 3500 AMD and only a gig of RAM, it's fine. a friend of mine's brother works for microsoft, he set me up with vista ultimate for free =P.

I actually want less features. I disabled all the stupid widgets and other crap that comes with it. Why do I need a digital version of an analogue clock when there is one on the lower left hand of the screen? Useless.

yes things like the clock are useless, but then there are tools like non-destruction drive partitioning/resizing that make the OS pure ownage.

i don't even have to look out the window, i just check my vista desktop weather report thingy and i know the weather in my town.

I checked out Vista the other day, and it looks pretty nice. However if I were to get it, I'd get the 64 bit version, which isn't stable for shit yet. Does anybody know how well the 64 bit version of XP runs?

why would you want 64-bit? All it will give you is compatibility problems and the ability to get more memory which you motherboard probably can't support anyway. pointless.

Although if you still want it, I hear WinXP 64-bit is solid.

Just purchased a completely new setup, should come in this week, and if my OS cd doesn't work for some fucked up reason I'd like to upgrade it to 64 bit. The motherboard can accept up to 8GB, and I'd like to run more than just 3GB...

EDIT: Looks like there are a ton of driver problems for 64 bit stuff. Fuck that.

I picked up a new laptop a couple of months ago which has Vista on it...at first I was like this isn't so bad...now I'm like "where the f is my windows '95 cd"

It has the student/home whatever Vista on it, I have a pro version but doubt I will put it on 'cause if I wipe it I'm putting XP on it.

I won't even get into the issue I've had with their damn updates.

Vista is pretty but that's all it is right now.

Get a Commodore 64.
