Downloading a 500mb+ CPanel Backup

This is a really funny story. Full of irony, I'll start from the top.

I opened a reseller account with ResellerZoom like 4 years ago. Everything went great until about two months ago. All the sudden my sites were never up and support was very slow. RZ basically went to shit.

I open up a new reseller account at a different host. They have a "refugee" offer where they migrate your CPanel accounts from your old hosts. I put in a support ticket asking them to do so.

I get an email the next day saying they were unable to migrate because the server load on my RZ server is to high. Lets recap. I decide to switch from my old host because of too high load, but am unable to migrate because of the high load. They tell me to resolve the issue (like I have any control over it), and email them again.

I'm not new to webhosting. I've migrated CPanel accounts before, but if someone else can do it, great. But as I said earlier Vikrom Smith (Smith, really?), and his army of talented support technicians are unable to migrate my accounts. Fine I'll do it myself.

I successfully migrated all but one of the accounts over, after like an entire day wasted downloading, and redownloading CPanel backups, and then waiting for them to upload again.

I have one fucking site left, and I can't get the backup to download past about 50MB. I send it a support ticket saying that my downloads keep getting cut off and the reply I get is something along the lines of this:

"Your download is being terminated because it increases the load of the server to an unacceptable level, please try again in off-peak hours"

Cool. I can't download a backup from my high load server because the act of actually downloading the backup puts to much load on my server. DO YOU SEE THE IRONY?

Now I have a full backup of the site files on my computer, but what I'm really interested in is the AWStats backups, and other random things like that, which I don't have saved on my computer. I tried several download managers and several off peak hours, on several days. My record is 192.6MB.

Worst comes to worst I'll just upload the site for my HD and lose all the precious stats. BUuuuuuuutttt.. I'm hoping someone here has a clever way to solve my problem. Anyone know how to just get the stats? and just restore the stats? Or successfully download a full back up off a shit server?

Have you tried any programs that can split up downloads? Like download 50mb at a time, then wait and do it again. I don't know of any but I'm sure one exists...

Have you tried SSHing in (assuming you have access) and zipping the files up? The file would be slightly smaller, and the server may see it differently because it is just one file as opposed to 50/100/1000/more files being moved simultaneously.

Ask them if they can restore it using low priority.

The file is already a tar, I dunno how it compares to a zip but it is compressed. I don't want them to restore it either. I believe I have SSH access, does downloading it through SSH instead of HTTP provide any benefits in and of itself?

I need to download a backup myself so I can restore it on the new server, not for them to do a restore.

The main problem with the download managers is the server doesn't send the total filesize, it just says Downloading 1.2MB of unknown, so when they get cut off, they just assume they have everything.

you should be able to download the awstats info via ftp from the root folder

You should just wget it from your new server. That way it removes the download/upload process. The new server just downloads it from the old server, without the middleman (you).

edit: Theres also a create full backup to remote server option in cPanel. You could try that?

I found the AWstats info in tmp/awstats. I haven't tried it yet because I'm at work but I assume that putting that directory in the same place on the new server I should have my old stats.
