Drug Testing Welfare Recepiants

Clearly, some of you dislike the idea of welfare, or at least disapprove of the way the welfare system is currently operated.

So, suppose you had a say in the matter. What changes would you make?

Sounds like a fun challenge. So if I were still interested in a minarchy at all, and had the power to do so, here's what I'd decree:

1. Lower the federal tax rate to a flat 10% of both Income and Cap Gains. For EVERY RESIDENT. (Ending all wars should make up the difference, if there is any loss.)

2. Those who can show some sort of hardship & would like their taxes to be less, say 2%, can forfeit their vote for that benefit. EVERYONE still must pay some sort of income tax though, no exceptions.

3. Anyone showing up to the polls to vote anywhere on US soil that can't show that they have paid a full 10% tax the most recent tax season must be refused their right to vote. No exceptions.

4. Anyone found to not pay any taxes at all would be required to do weekly community service of some kind until they get back on track with their taxes again. This will remind them that citizenship ain't free.

5. Anyone STILL not paying any taxes and dodging community service for 3 consecutive months will be automatically enrolled in full-time residential community service program, which houses and feeds these idiots in lieu of homeless shelters, but operates as a self-funded workforce that anyone can hire for cheap labor. (They'd need to offer a wide range of services, from residential lawn care to grocery bagging to government contracts. Whatever minimum-wage needs exist.)

This is kind of a halfway-house solution between freedom and prison that must remain self-funded. It could even be a private corp that the state doesn't tax as a business.

6. Refuse to go to the working homeless shelter even? I guess a real prison would be required at that point. I'd say deportation but where to? Perhaps they are allowed to leave prison if they choose to emigrate. (Banishment.)

As for Social Security, state pensions, and all other types of welfare programs that exist now, they'd have to be phased out in the way Ron Paul outlined. No new members allowed to join from day 1.


Having said all of this, I find it ridiculously obtuse and yearn for a day when we don't have to bend our brains so far just to conform to the needs of a.... Government.

So, the solution to the welfare state is to slide further towards some kind of socialist system where we have people "working" in order to receive their share of the treasury funds?

I don't want to pay for the guy down the street to sit on his ass and watch TV all day.

I also don't want to pay for him to take part in various useless WPA-style projects that will only be used to justify the "success" of the state's employment program.

This idea is appealing emotionally, because it gets people off their asses, but the long term effects of it would be disastrous.

End public charity at the federal and state level.

Getting a check from a faceless gov't agency is akin to pennies from heaven, and does not encourage the recipient to improve their situation in a meaningful way.

Make people accountable to their neighbors for the charity they receive, and watch the element of shame begin to motivate the shiftless masses.

This is the way charity was handled in this country before the gov't decided to get involved, and I don't recall ever reading about mass starvation in 19th century America.

I live in Indiana and this has got to be one of the newest ways to cost tax payers a ton of cash with little to no benefit. Didn't Florida already do something like this that ended up costing millions of dollars and only catching like 6 drug users?

Wouldn't it be a better idea to idk, maybe use arrest records to find potential drug users on public assistance?

I agree in principle, but unfortunately I agree and don't think it would effect the bottom line...

Put time limits on stuff:

1 - Lose your job - Collect Unemployment for 3 months, haven't fount a job by then sucks to be you.

2 - welfare - collect for 5 months, Haven't gotten back on your feet by then sucks to be you.

3 - All government aid outside the USA - Stops immediately, We have plenty of our own problems to be helping other countries out.

4 - Drug Test anyone applying for any Aid. If they can afford their drug habit they don't need to have their hands in my pocket.

The state will go broke because they cant build any more jails and as inmates are released they will run to another state to get their freebies, so existing jails will close. Hispanic and black folk (IE 80% of the people on welfare) need to find a new state, pitty the surrounding states, these fucks will be taking a bus.

As a plus for people that live there, the crime rate is about to go way down. Plus now their homes will be worth more once the ghettos are gone.

No hood = no drugs = no guns = 49 more states need to do the same!! Watch AZ will be next!!

Testing recipients of government funds is a great idea - as long as it's extended to senior employees of bailedout firms such as Fannie and Freddie, Chrysler, GMC, BoA, CitiGroup etc. You don't want govermnent money going to people on drugs do you?
