Do I need to get any special permissions for these? Can I link them and just move on? I know there's companies that provide them but I was wondering about the average joe.
I have seen some high quality .edu and .gov sites that have provided links for other high quality sites. However, it's not too difficult to find these types of links, but the pages are usually over-saturated.
Pretty much agree with what Tomaz said. Back when .edu/.gov sites were said to have great SEO value, everyone was rushing to get backlinks from them which pretty much over saturated them. And nowadays these sites don't even seem to have much value.
This is not easy to have backlinks from edu/gov sites. But in the present time there are many seo service providers available on the net that cna provide you gov/edu backlinks at very affordable prices.which will help you to get targeted traffic to your website.
Why would you waste your time on establishing gov and edu when Cutts clearly stated they are not biased. Go make your site look prettier instead or something.
There is a dude called El Chiquitillo, he waits somewhere on the Albuquerque boarder on the thrid Thursday of each month. Sells them out of the back of his truck.
No one knows exactly what he looks like but they say you can identify him by his disfigured mouse clicking finger - legend has it Matt Cutts tried to chop it off in a bar fight. Apparently El Chiquitillo told Matt Cutt's to obey his domain authoratarrrrrrr.
Well, you don’t need permission but you need to ask the webmaster to link back you. It doesn’t matter whether links come from .edu or .gov, what matters is how reputable the link is. A link is given weight by Google only if it comes from an authority website. Refer to this video for more information on how Google rate links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxTmZulcQZ0.
