Effective traffic techniques?

I know there are many different ways to get traffic but I just wanted to take the time to see what members are doing out there to get traffic to there sites and what's the most effective for them? Is it just article writing and posting in forums and blogs the basis? Or do you use a certain service?

There really is no definitive answer. There are just so many different ways - yes, sure, articles / posting is great. But what about SEO? Social Bookmarking / News sites? Link directories? Great content that pulls users? Forums for the site to keep them coming back?

It really goes on and on. I suggest reading the Traffic is Supreme section. You're not going to get the end-all be-all answer with a vague question like that - research, experiment, ask along the way.

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.

What?! No mention of PPC?!

I obviously don't know your business model MON3YMAKER, but if you have the budget, PPC can be a great source of quick traffic.

Of course, getting that traffic to convert is another story.

I couldn't agree more. PPC is king. It's instant traffic, you have almost 100% control over it, you can test keyword and ad creative almost real-time, so that you can tweak your campaign and optimize it to be a money making monster.

Once you have done that, then you can go out and get all the free traffic that you want through the methods listed above.

I've got some sites that generate more in a day than most Americans make in a month, where 99% of that traffic comes from PPC. And they started as campaigns that were losing money at the beginning.

I think far too often, people jump around and never give something a chance to work. That's why you see so many of the online forums filled with people that make less than $500 per month in online advertising/marketing.

FYI, I tested this one niche for about 2 weeks straight and ALMOST gave up, when I found the silver bullet. I've been tweaking it ever since for over a year now.
