"Hello xxx,
We have some concerns regarding your job with your freelancer: xxx.
There are no messages in the work room, and there are no details regarding the work being done in the job proposal. Please provide detail how you know your freelancer, the nature of the work being done including examples, and how you are communicating. Please provide a detailed response so we may continue to review your Elance account.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

now they block my account so i can't hire anybody

so i send them a reply and tell them, that i'm just using elance to pay him and he already has the instructions .... and answer the other questions too.

"

Hello xxx,
Thank you for replying to my email and for providing additional information.
I am currently reviewing your account, but need some help from you to continue. Please send us a scanned copy of any Government Issued ID i.e passport/Drivers License in order to verify your identity.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

1) Identity verification by ID copy is one of the most widespread methods for all online businesses and nobody sees any downsides of this. Why do you object?
2) Nearly all Terms of Service include the point of non-refundable payments. Consider your money lost.
3) why the hell would you create a fake account if not for 1-time payment? If you wish to use elance in the future - register a new account with true ID. If you will not - your own problem, you can send the money by Western Union if you wish.

1st, thanks for the reply:
3. I made a second account on odesk with a different name because I did not want my regular guy to see I hired someone else. This guy asked I pay him on elance because he gets the money quicker that way. Also I have a rare name and im paranoid about my ORM, i am always honest but sometime when people rip you off it's better they don't know your real name, especiallly when it is unique like mine.
2.ya I saw they say you cant do a charge back otherwise you owe them the money +legal fees,,, I dont see how they can/ should be allowed to exempt themselves from chargebacks, it should still still have right to chargeback any company if i dispute the charges, and then it is up to visa /mc to investigate and if they find i am wrong they give they money back to merchant and sue me..so elance can suck my balls
1. what is your name and address then? and can you please pm me a scan of your id to confirm? It is my policy. You dont mind do you? Unless of course you are a terrorist or scammer!
0. If they have such a problem with my id verification, then why do they have no problem to withdraw my money from paypal, with no verification? This not the first time I have heard of elance scam rip off freelancer site, many people say they suspend their account and keep the money.
-1 I also need to make sure this is not some trick seller do.

PS. I never had to send a scan of my ID to ebay, fiverr, odesk, amazon, google, godaddy, networks solutions, forums, paypal, etc etc. ...except name cheap made me do it as an excuse when namecheap stole my domain name (it was a valuble misspell too.) never had a problem with my other domain names either.

and #2 ... if they can get away with this then everybody should put a no chargeback clause burried in their terms.

to get your 15 bucks back, you could just forge some government documents. dont worry.

regarding 1. Am I buying a service from you? What rights do you have to require my IDs then? If I want to be your business partner - I understand you expect me to be honest. If not - I do not care.

i think i get what you are saying, but if you were paying me for a service (for example: you hire me to make website for you) then why should you need to give me a scan of your id? i think most people dont want this type of internet. i think businesses should have a biz license so they are accountable for their business practices and taxes, but i think personal info should be private to the public. just my opinion.

im just going to wait it out and hope the payment goes through, and if it doesn't then i'll tell flealance to give me my mutha fuggin money back and to go sit on a lance and then pay the guy via odesk. PS i guess odesk/ upwork works fine, it was just my guy hid his account because he was gone.. so i guess everything is still there.

I just say that businesses and companies have much more responsibility than individuals and take fraud much more seriously. If a guy comes to us and states his name is Willi Wonka, he lives in Disneyland and his phone number is +1.123456789 - we usually close this order at once.

However, if most of details are correct and seem trustworthy, while some are questionable - we require additional verification through providing a photo quality copy of a government-issued ID like passport or driving licence. If a guy wants to get our services and pay us - he provides the ID and we are all golden. This is a normal practice across the industry and this is exactly what Elance support rep asked of you.

I'm not familiar with shit enough to know, but is this legit or shady as fuck? I don't really know.
Not necessarily shady, I've done it on Odesk. I know there you can have multiple businesses (I create one for each job), and it's just a couple clicks to switch.

And yes OP, I would find it strange and probably want ID if you said your name was Mike Roberts but your Paypal payment came from John Smith. Explain the situation to them and the reasons you had for being an idiot.
