Entertaining PCMag piece on SEO

The author of that article is a complete fucking idiot.

Before:

"Search engine optimization (SEO) has turned into a big business, and from what I can tell it's the modern version of snake oil. The unproven nonsense spewed by so-called "SEO experts" simply doesn't work. And worse, it's screwing up the elegance of the Web."
And now all of a sudden:

My advice to Web site managers, when you see this sort of result, is to contact THAT site and hire the consultant doing SEO for it. This sort of thing is no accident.

The best part is the hypocrisy of that article being on PCMag; one of the most ad-ridden sites out there. Every possible pixel that can be whored out is sold for a $40 CPM.

You can tell how well or poorly the search engine countermeasures are doing when you search for something, and you click on a link and the link leads to another search engine with the same term auto-entry in its search engine. This trick kills me. You are looking for something innocuous such as "hub cap" and the result you get is one of those parker pages that is a faux search engine with a bunch of ads somehow related to hub caps and often a Google Adsense ad. How can this even happen?

LMAO you heard him guys, everyone go and hire rivaclick/umaxlogin guestbook spammers for your SEO needs.

Try and find the best cell phone deal on the Internet using a search engine. Every hit is some commercial site trying to sell you something.

The process is called "search engine optimization" and is commonly referred to as SEO. It's killing the Internet if it hasn't already. I've complained about it before but it's too late to do anything about it except moan more.
Um, if you're looking for a deal on a cell phone (that you're looking to buy), shouldn't the results return commercial sites where you can buy the phone?

I think he is longing for the good old days of 1996 when it doesn't matter what you searched for, Alta Vista returned porn.

My dick is glad those days are gone. Research papers were impossible to get done.

Back when Dmoz was useful because it categorized all the porn you could ever want?

Does Dmoz even exist anymore? Oh wait, isn't it Google directory? LOL!

holy fucking shit. No wait, he's right, because if I type in "best cell phone deal" what I really want is a wikipedia article talking about the future of cell phones followed by a bunch of sites featuring cell phone news and tips on using cell phones to order pizza.

This guy needs to be kicked in the nuts.
