If you can't design your own and don't want to outsource it, go to one of the free sites and make one, or snag one of their already made generic ones as a place holder for when you can be arsed to do it yourself.

That' s really basic knowing of html and web.
If your HTML head tag has no favicon.ico, the browser will never fire an http request for it.
 
Imagine your Prosper202 domain. It doesn't really need a favicon does it?

i host my 16x16 favicon on Akamai's CDN. Even a 0.0005123 second delay in loading could prove fatal to my business.
 
Step 1. Go to google.com
Step 2. Search for the icon you want.
Step 3. Specify 16x16 in Google.
Step 4. Save image, open with IrfanView, Save as 'favicon.ico'.
Step 5. Profit? ...
