Hey guys I'm new to IM and I've been perusing the forum for the past few days. I've got a few ideas on setting up some websites but was wondering about PPC vs commissions. Which would you recommend for beginners and what's the advantage of one vs the other. I was also thinking of creating a forum. Was gonna make it split profit and have a friend of mine who's a pretty good writer help me out with it. I was wondering how much work is required to run a forum and what kind of expenses I'd have up front? Also, when building a forum I read a post recommending using an email list to recruit members along with a landing page to help build the email list. Would it be best to create a website related to the forum niche with a landing page to get an email list of people who would actually be interested in it or is there a better method to developing the list.

Too many questions and no action. You seem to be heading in 50 directions at once. Calm down and start doing something, start a small website, try to rank it for some easy terms and build on top of that. Forums are a bitch to get off the ground.

Well I was kinda in a rut since I can't start til Friday and got antsy. I just opened a new bank account and they sent my card to the wrong address . So I'm currently just biding my time finding domains and niche's and designing websites. Also I assumed forums would be a pain in the ass just wanted some reinforcement on it. I'll just finish one of these webpages and go from there. Thanks for the advice.

if you are going for a forum the best thing you can do is make sure the niche is something that actually interests you and you know a lot about so you can help out your readers
you would also do good when you are biding your time to become an expert on other related forums so you can build a social following and at the same time put up offer/help on those forums that can help you collect some emails
when you have acquired some status you can then use these accounts to market your own forum

I joined postloop as research on what others were doing for building new forums. It was pretty interesting to see the different approaches and it was a good learning experience. I decided to not start my proposed forum because I realized it would take a lot of my time and was not interesting enough. As with so many things, quality is hard.

Yeah I do know a lot about the niche. The guy who's helping me does too. I'm gonna try to create related micro niche's to it and use landing pages for emails. Then when i release the forum use those pages to promote it. Gonna (hopefully) use the profit from those to get my hands on vBulletin. Good idea about trying to use other forums to collect emails gonna check into that. Thanks man.

forum needs a lot of work to get it active... you can keep it but concentrate on other stuff... maybe if you have the budget get some forum posted from freelancer type sites.

Thanks
