Someone asked this question, and I gave a quick reply - but then put on my thinking cap to see how else I could find one vertical and branch out from there.

There is no shortage of sites on the web - so that would be one of the BEST ways to research the sub-topics in any niche but what else can be done?

How to do it? Search health and beauty. Visit several sites. The nice thing about this topic is that most sites are nicely organized. So they break it down into the relavent sub-topics like: makeup, hair, waxing, beauty tips etc., They even break it down finer on some sites into stuff like evening makeup, daytime makeup, weekend makeup etc.,

Attend relavent trade shows. I never thought about this before, but makes perfect sense. Where else can you see real world issues except at a expo or trade fair?

So I found a link to the Vancouver (BC, Canada) Health & Beauty Expo.

Here is the link: Trade Show Directory,International Trade Shows - Business Trade Shows,Trade Fairs,Events,Trade Exhibitions

and here is the cached info as the information is no longer on the site:

Health & Beauty Expo 2009,Health & Beauty Expo -Canada,Toronto,Canada, The Cosmetics Industry Trade fair.

This would give you a first hand idea at the types of niches to look at and the various products available that people are buying or looking for.

Of course you could also find a lot of the same information on the web - but this gives you one more method to find niches and to do your market research.

I'll bet you could sell a few of those at the Health & Beauty Expo...you might have found a niche.
