hi,
iam doing adwords now for a few months but iam trying to get it to the next level. So i tought about how to find the best position for a specific keyword. How are you doing that? Do you use google analytics and connect it with adwords so see the roi for every position or do you just lower or rise the bids every week an then check the conversions / costs. Or are you using special tools for that job?

Im looking at the profit per cpm per position.

Ive found some weird results, for example on one adgroup position 2 is cheaper per click than position 6 but position 6 makes much more per cpm of the ad.

Ive found the best way to analyze your campaign data is to break everything down to CPM, forgot about ad CTR's and CPC, look at how much it costs and how much you make per 1000 impressions of your ad.

Example

Ok so here is the example I was talking about.

As you can see position 6 offers the best return per CPM.

Although from this data I might be tempted to go with position 2 as the CTR is very healthy and may result in a long term reward from google.

I'm responding to this only so the "Wide and Deep" and "Finding the best position" threads are next to each other.

[Edit: Got it. Carry on people]

iam doing it a bit similar at the moment, but iam going for cpc and epc. so if i make 0,35 for every click, i set the bid for 0,25 so i earn 0,10 for every click. iam not aiming for roi anymore because if you got keywords wich are more expensive like for example 1,40 and you want a earn a 50% roi you set your bid to 0,70 and then if you got a keyword wich costs 0,40 then you need to bid 0,20. and if you compare the two you see that you earn much more for the first one, but you could get much more traffic for that one if you set you bid to 1,20 and earn also 0,20 for that keyword.

so thats the main reason why i aim for epc and not roi anymore. but like i said, now i want to find out which position really gives you the best overall profit per day. and for doing that i need to find out the cpcs and the traffic volume for every position. so i tought about google analytics or are there other tools which do better for that job?
