First steps after developing domain

I have been reading about alot of methods to build links when your site is already established and getting traffic, but not alot is written for new sites with little to no traffic.

I assume the options for backlink building/getting traffic are just directories, social bookmarking, article submitting and ppc? Basically what do you do after your website is first finished and you're trying to eventually rank in the serps?

You are correct. Directories, Social Bookmarking, and Article Submitting are how you build the backlinks. Also commenting on Blog Posts and Forum Sigs. PPC isn't really a way to get backlinks, it's a way to get traffic to your site until it is getting organic traffic. This may or may not make sense for you depending on how profitable your site is.

The first thing you need to do is upload your website/cms and get content going. If you start off figuring out how to get backlinks and traffic before you have any content you won't make it far.

Start up an appropriate blog(s) over on Wordpress, Blogger, Typepad, etc. & post, post, post.
Squidoo lenses & hubpages. Cruise related forums, interact and slip worthwhile links in there(particularly good if they let you have a linked sig). Toss in a some articles and you can rank well, & quickly, especially if you have some decent content.
