It's much more harder than you listed there
1. People will not tell, you should try yourself, nothing popular anyway which is overcrowded or solid research needs to be done before
2. Which will pay you;)
3. Depends on which niche you will find in 1.
4. Do it like you imagine it if you will be in user shoes

Just to give you a little help with the start point, you need think find a CPA offer, if you are still looking for a CPA company you need to just sign up somewhere and then review their offers.

Id say check maxbounty for quite a few good offers, quick payouts and fast signup/approval

Probably should have posted in the newbie forum, maybe a mod could move it for you.

For traffic sources why don't you check out this thread:

If you're just getting started, I would say stay away from the big networks like Google and Facebook just because they are a little more tricky to navigate as an affiliate. Instead you could browse around POF and play with their ads platform a little or go with an adult network like exoclick or traffic junky. Not that they're going to be easier to use, but they won't ban you just for using a network tracking link.

Keep in my you are probably going to have to spend hundreds of dollars, if not much more, on any new platform before you really get a feel for it and are able to turn a profit.

Just pm Grindstone in the future if you need help on shiaat like this.

Understand that google has a black box auction system, and their programming is likely way smarter than you. And faster. And more sinister. They know more about your bidding habits than you do, and their goal is to squeeze every bit of profit out of the deal.

You can make money that way, but I'd try something else first if I were you.
