Forum Signature?

if the forum topic is related to the signature then it makes sense
Signatures do help a bit to get crawlers to your site. I did a test a few months back and a link in a signature on a forum led MSN crawlers to visit that site for the first time.
Now consider the link on my signature here. The site is not indexed in Google - a site:yourhotsearch.com shows nothing
Now if you look at Google's cache - cache:www.yourhotsearch.com/polar-bear.html - Google Search
The cache can be seen. This link is only on this forum so my guess is Google has crawled that page via WF.
As to whether it will ever appear in a google search, that is another story.

Dude you have it all wrong! Its all about networking, and im just the guy to help you out! Listen you dont put your own sites in your sig silly! I will pm you one of my links that you will put in your sig on this site and any other forums you might visit. Then in turn you PM me one of your links and I will do the same for you. The most important concept followed by google to rank websites depends upon the backlinks which a website has. The signature in a forum acts as a link which points to a website from the forum. During the crawling process of google this backlinks are counted. Therefore backlinks are considered as most important in SEO.
Don't underestimate "Social Traffic", of people just see'ing what you say and clicking the link....
Catchy anchor tags can add to traffic too, especially on a popular forum/topic.
Not to mention most forums output to RSS feeds etc, which generally is put into adsense spam sites by affilates (even tho they strip HTML).. So you'd be suprised where your "signature" can pop up.
Its not like it takes any effort at all to add one =0.

I've read on several sites that adding urls to your sig will boost your seo rating...just as has already been said, through linkbacks. It can also be important to make sure your anchor text is relevant and descriptive. ie, not just the url.
