The company I work for is looking for a shopping cart solution to integrate into our custom built CMS. My boss is a little on the fence about using an Open Source solution stating that since the source code is more available, the likely hood of exploitations/hacking is way more.

I certainly feel that any open source cart can be secured if it isnt already.

Ive heard of Zen Cart and osCommerce, im also looking for more suggestions on solid shopping carts that will allow for customization. The standard things like tax and having the ability to be setup for Credit Card gateways apply.

I run a few large sites for a company using osCommerce, it's pretty easy to work with and works great. Tons of mods available or you can code your own. You can secure and transform it so you don't even know it's osCommerce, if you have to choose, I'd recommend it.

I tried osCommerce, but that was before I really got the hang of PHP, so it was a little over my head (I'm an ASP guy turning to PHP). From playing around with it though, it seemed pretty good, if a little lame for the want of serious modding...

Punch your boss in the face with a sock full of shit. Maybe this will help him understand what is wrong with the above statement. The availability of source code means that exploitations/hacking is easier to find and fix, and that you aren't dependent on a central authority to decide when and whether and for how much to help you in a crisis.

(I'm sure that you understand that, but he doesn't seem to.)
