I guess I'm confused here. Looks like you translated it from German to English...so what's the question?

Err.. you looking for a dimwit to translate this for free?

And they say you ain't rasist... Awwww...

*N00b looking for trouble - obviously*

They are analysing SERP positions by

- keyword in title

No surprise here

- keyword in body

- Keyword in H1
h1.png

First surprise, as this does not seem to correlate with SERP position.

- Keyword in H2 - H6
h2-h6.png

- keyword in bold/strong

- Keyword in filename (images)

- Keyword in alt tag (images)

- keyword in hostname (Domain, including all subdomains)

...to be continued

- keyword in path (after hostname)

- number of parameters

- File size

- Links to the site

Ooooh, no, really?

- Pagerank

... to be continued

The only real interesting conclusions here are:

- H1 does not seem to have as much impact as thought
- Path does not seem to have too much impact

From a scientific standpoint, I would say (and the authors say as much in their conclusion) that this is crap.

They can not measure out the interdependancy of ranking factors.

Some interesting results would also have been:
- Divide for H2 , H3, H4, H5, H6
- divide for domain / subdomain
- Look at keywords in path if NOT keyword in host versus IF included in host
- etc..

nothing surprising here, really, but the science is surprisingly weak in this one.

Yep, that sums it up.

You forgot to end you words in izzle. Shizzle. Killizzle the Jewizzles hitlerizzle all up in this dizzle 3 times izzle writing Mein Kampf like a ebookizzle. Lolacaustizzle.

Makes it all seem nice and happy.

Definitely, but only if you know what you are doing (statistics).

One improvement would already be repeating this but laying open the data like .. how many domains / keywords were tested.

And the above refinements.

Also, number of parameters is a crap measure, as they measured foo=bar combos in the URL.

If I put a mod rewrite there, this becomes useless.
(duuuuh)

So you can kill that one.

So the hard part would be deciding on what to search for and measure and handling the output, i guess building it would just be a scraper of sorts.

Hmmm.

Thats gotta be one of the most in-depth posts I've ever seen Emp reply with here. Good show man.

Hahaha...
You musta missed my work with the noobs lately.

But thanks

Yeah, basically, what they did was take a number of keywords and hammer them through google.

Then download every result and analyse the source code.
The count for each SERP position.

Like "keyword h1 is on 89 of 100 sites on Position 1" etc..
Basically, I guess a 1 would mean 100% of sites, .5 50% etc..

My head is swirling with improvements right now.

Best would be to target this for a niche (say acne)

You could analyse long tail / generic keywords. (multiple word queries / one word queries).
You could analyse unique number of domains on each SERP.
..
and all kinds of neat things.

And there are statistical tools to analyse the dependency of factors, those fools are just too dumb to know / use them. (In their defence: Advanced statistics)
