I'm thinking of upgrading to dual monitors for productivity (or at least that's what I tell myself). However, my current one is a regular LCD (19'') (not widescreen), while the ones I'm looking at buying are all widescreen (19''). Can anyone speak from experience whether or not the difference between regular and widescreen causes any problems/is annoying.
Thanks

Dual monitors is the shit. I highly recommend it. As for the difference between regular and widescreen, that's a personal preference. Some people I know love it, and some people I know hate it. If you don't like the widescreen look, just go with regular. I use regular.

My laptop is a widescreen (1280 x 768) even though it's only a 12.1" (Dell 700M) and I have a 17" LCD (1280 x 1024) hooked up to it. I normally set it up so I'm only using my monitor but occasionally I will use it in "extended desktop" mode so I can use both screens. The resolution difference is annoying. But if you are on a desktop it may be an entirely different story.

Once you've tried two, there is no going back! You will wonder what you ever did without the second. Once you go too three, you are an official nerd.

I have two dell 2405FPW's and an old 21" CRT. Lots of desktop. I use a program called ultramon to manage the multiple monitors.

Ultramon lets you setup profiles and you can create shortcuts, so with a double click I can change resolutions on the different monitors depending on what I am doing.

Just make sure you get a video card with some juice.

The best setup I've found so far is 3 monitors.

1 19" lcd (vertical) x 1 24" lcd widescreen x 1 19" lcd (vertical)

Then you have a window for email, surfing and working.

I tried dual widescreens but that was TOO big.

dual is nice and worth the money.I will probably add another monitor once the quad-Xeon prices drop and I can upgrade the comp.

money homie,

i was looking at monitors in a future shop flyer yesterday, and some 24" LCD LG was like 400- 700$. And beside it was an ad for a pretty decent computer for like $650. We should start gathering some prices on good deals and stuff in this thread. I will look when i get home tonight.

I'm ordering two 30" Apple Cinema displays in the next few weeks, pictures will follow! Two 19" 4:3 monitors is great, can't wait to see some huge ass Apple monitors ;)

The Apple 30" is great the bonus is you only need one monitor. This is possibly our next move, I just don't have the extra 9 grand laying around 2 macbook pros but the 30" and 2 Apple care warranties. I mean I could but I prefer to do other things at the moment...
If i don't get the Apple I'll just add a 3rd monitor, the way Bill Gatwes has it set up is perfect one monitor soley for email and communication.

Also there is no problem because you still can set the proper resolution (the wway you like it) in the settings...it just double when you pan across like right now I'm using 1280x1024 normally that would be 2560x1024 but I'm only running one monitor now because I've messed up my card and I've been too busy to worry about installing the new one

Also I believe frys has some 19"'s on sale for 159 or something

I'm looking at this one if I decide to pick up another regular and this one if I decide to get a widescreen.

I think both are decent deals, otherwise, just watch slickdeals. There was just a 20'' BenQ one for like $140 after rebate.

That's what I run!

I was gonna move to 3 - 24" with 4 -19" across the top, but I'm thinking I might just go a 30" in the middle with a 20/21" on each side turned vertical.

Tyler, what computer setup do you have? Must be SLI to run 2 30" displays eh? And does anybody else have experience with Apple displays as far as PC compatibility goes? I've heard the monitors are very picky about the kind of hardware you have. And I heard you can't access the BIOS threw the Apple display, you have to plug in a regular one (which I think is total bull shit).

And damn Tyler, have you actually seen one of the 30" monitors at the store? You'll hurt your neck with all of that extra space you'll get from running 2 of them.

I've never seen one in person, but I setup two 27" Samsung LCD TV's at Future Shop and I LOVE it.

Display has nothing to do with BIOS, last time I checked monitors weren't 'picky' with what they display.
