Getting a Job - AM Part Time

Since you suck at AM, I suggest you stop doing it completely and start looking for jobs related to affiliate marketing (perhaps affiliate marketing would be a good choice). Or apply jobs at SEO companies, etc. You get the idea. Live way below your means. Pay off your debt.

So... the time I've been dreading has come.

Haven't had a job in about 4 years. I've been living off of affiliate and other marketing all that time, however my debt is around 50k.

And majority of my campaigns either tanked or getting negative ROI as of this month. This month so far has been the worst ever.

I always delayed getting a job, because I thought that "yeah next project will surely work out"...

Now I'm at a point that I can't even find motivation to look at stats, let alone do new stuff.

The problem I'm seeing is - where can I even find a job? What am I gonna put on resume. I only have retail experience, and I'm not going to retail fuck no.

What adds additional problems is I have another real life business, but it's not taking off (can't pour money into offline marketing), but I do get orders a few times week. If I get a job, this business will be neglected and I might loose some regular customers.

All-in-all this is a pretty shitty situation.

hey guys, some good advice here

do not want to file for bankruptcy, because it be honest it's pretty stupid. After all it's only 50k, not 5 million.

getting a job as a SEO or SEM specialist... lol there are just so many problems with that. First of, I'm sure they will want to sign a non-compete agreement.

Even if not, what am I gonna say at an interview? "Yeah so... I've lost about 50k doing SEM... now I need to get a job". I just don't see how it would be possible to get a job as a SEM.

I still have a few projects up my sleeve and I might try salvaging old campaigns to get me to a few grand a month, but getting a job is still probably a good idea. The problem is which job.

"I have plenty of first hand experience in an industry that, in reality, is still in its infancy. I am fully aware of the rapidly changing enviornment and infastructure and am capable of recognizing strategic elements that give me an edge over my competition."

SEO is a drawn out process. At the very least, you'll have a few months to learn before you get found out.

For the record, talking to a bankruptcy lawyer isn't declaring bankruptcy and none of us really know his real situation. Even if he isn't a good candidate for bankruptcy at least the lawyer will be able to give him some professional advice.

Best idea ever. Get MORE in debt by paying a lawyer to tell you something that you should already know.

Stop trying to talk your way out of it just because you made a fucking retarded suggestion.

Actually, if he had a lot more debt and spouse with all of their combined assets within her (name) ownership - the suggestion may have held validity.

A lot of good advice here, particularly those saying you should get an AM job (or any kind of e-commerce/internet marketing job, for that matter). Out of college, I went to work as the marketing director for an e-commerce company, which worked out really well. Instead of working on the low margins of affiliate promotions, I got a lot of practice doing PPC with someone else's cash on much wider margins. Even better, I got the manage the affiliate program and get a first-hand view of what people were doing to make more than I was making at the time through affiliate marketing.

At the time, I was doing just fine on my own, but taking the position actually turned out to be much better than just getting a paycheck, since I was essentially getting paid to go to web marketing school.

If you can't find a job like that (and given your area and ability to sell yourself in writing, it could take a little while), look for a bartending job in the meantime. Yes, serving people sucks, but it's part-time work with flexible hours and a lot of cash tips.

Oh yeah, and shut down all your campaigns until you have the motivation to look at your stats with a clear head - no sense in losing more money because you're not tracking things properly.

I'm not sure how things work in the states, but if you're based in the UK, then things are very much on your side. I have worked out through meticulous methods ;) that if you stop all payments on outstanding credit, it takes at least 12 months for them to go forward to obtain a court order. Oh, and this is if you have NO contact with the geezers in the first place.

In fact, regardless of jurestriction, I'd be shocked if you couldn't reduce your debt to 25k by simply not paying anything for six months and waiting for the debt to be sold on. Sure, it'll fuck your credit record for a couple of years, but no-where nearly as bad as declaring bankruptcy.
