so im just trying to make sense of some of this .. but i've been running an offer and it was capped, now i pretty much hit the cap, then today i hear im getting 30 leads charged back b/c of a scrub by the advertiser

like wtf is that? i'm still grateful for the money i made, but still 30 leads was a lot of change that is just gone now .. like y not just make the cap lower .. i dont understand the reasoning behind this so if someone could help me out that would be great

It is pretty simple. Why should they have to pay you for a lead that someone else has already generated.

I see it from two points of view, but still. Money is tight everywhere right now. You need to figure out where those leads were generated from and if they were generated from the same site then I would look into advertising somewhere else really.

i'm not following you ... i had generated like 99% of the leads, so where r they coming from scrubbing 10% of the ones i gave? i understand money's tight

They could have also input false information. So when they tried to contact the lead if the number they gave didn't work or was to someone completely different then they would do a charge back as well.

I know when we are purchasing leads from someone then they have very specific guidelines for us to do a chargeback or get credit for new leads if we get bad ones. I am sure they are using some of the same guidelines themselves.

well from my understanding its not like i'm getting charged back 30 leads for being invalid ... theyre simply saying to me "hey, thanks for the leads, but were not going to pay you for 30 of them b/c were scrubbing them"

The network needs to work the scrub into their payout, lower the affiliate payout OR pull the affiliate if a good percentage of the leads are being removed.

Most lead houses scrub but a good network will need to monitor lead quality and make sure the scrub isnt passed down to the pubs. Also, beware of lead prices that are a lot higher than market cause there is a good chance you may run into a scrub unless your traffic is perfect and the network has their game tight.

That is something I have seen before. Some edu advertisers put in the contact that they are going to have a 10% max scrub, and assume that means they can just straight up scrub 10% of the leads no questions asked.

Try and fight it. Couldn't hurt and they might ad back some of the leads.

why is this? to give them leverage over bad leads?

It gives them a way to fight off people who are generating under-performing leads. It also just gives them another profit center when they need it as well. Probably goes towards a bonus to their sales guys.

Most networks already do adjust their pricing for the leads. Like Debt Settlement leads, you can only work in about 25 states or so. SO getting leads from the states where you cannot legally operate will not do you any good. So who suffers? The lead companies just mark their prices up so they pay for all the leads to the affiliates, but only sell the leads from the states that work.

Well, I would definitely be asking them for the lead information they scrubbed and get a reason for the scrub.
