I figured out this trick a while ago, and really didn't know where to put it so that the WF crowd could take advantage, so I figured here's as good a place as any, but feel free to move it.

Vista Print offers those crappy free business cards and you only have to pay for shipping, but most of the designs they offer are shit. This really easy trick can get you 250 cards with your own custom logo for free.

Basically, sign up for an account without buying anything. Check the box that asks if you're ok with getting promotional emails. If you have a "spam" email address, you might want to use that one, because they send you something basically every day.

After you've signed up, they start sending you e-mails "80% off premium business cards", "90% off premium business cards"; eventually you'll get a free premium business cards offer. It might take a couple of days, so be patient, but they will send one eventually.

Take that free offer, and add your own design. They won't charge you for it, so you get the cards for the cost of shipping. If you're not in a rush, in Canada it's about 7 bucks and in Australia it's about 10. I don't know about any other countries.

The card quality isn't bad. I wouldn't use it if I were head of Microsoft, but if you want fairly good quality cards for basically nothing, this is a pretty good way to get them.

good post, was just a thread about business cards, and vista was mentioned.
probably going to do this.. make me feel more important than I am hahah!
thanks holmeZ.

FYI, I think the free offer with Vistaprint has their own logo on the back of each card. I paid the additional $10 for a yearly calendar in the back of mine.

I ordered 1000 and went through them all after 4 tradeshows back in 2005. I'm going to need more for ASE this year, but I may do those in house. Non-perf business cards are $20 for 600 at Officemax and they look great off a color laser.

I'll vouch for Vistaprint's quality. I really like them. Make sure you get the glossy, the matte really looks homemade.

They have decent cards, but cards from Staples or Office Max are only a few bucks more and the quality is much better. If you are really in a bind and just starting out though, they are a good way to go and look professional at the same time.

teh cards from vistaprint, staples, and office max are garbage
i would be embarassed to have business cards from any of those places

It's been my experience looking at the more than 5,000 cards in my card case that the nicest cards come from the worst prospects.

The guys with basic cards are still in business 5 years after they gave them to me while the ones with hologram/indented/special-cut/CDROM cards are usually broke after 5 years.

I like overnightprints.com, you can get a pack of cards pretty cheap and they include a better finish than VistaPrint's basic cards.

In response to the watermark on the back, with this trick you're getting the "premium" cards, not the ones they refer to as free, so they don't have the watermark.

They're not the greatest cards in the world by far, but they're not bad for beginners.

Thats not a watermark, thats a printed ad on the back of the card. A watermark is something you get when you have cards that dont cost $5.99 per 1000

Haha...do you need to add shitty business cards to the pet peeve thread, Nicky?

Yeah, I have found that MANY services and products you can buy online offer much lower prices and more freebies if you make an account, save an item in your cart and exit before buying.

I first got Vista cards around 8 years ago and got glossy, custom logo, upgraded shippin, no logo on back, biz card holder, and so on for basically free.

I have also done this for vehicle signs, business mailing lists ( will send you 20,25,30% off emails), software, clickbank products, etc.

ETA:
Plus, honestly, I don't really need business cards for any reason. Certainly don't need fancy ones to show-off. Any time I have bought any ( had various online and offline businesses over the last decade) I have hundreds left over. I haven't given out a business card in 3-4 years. I do all my shit online and there is no reason for anyone to know what I do or for me to care to network with a bunch of douchebags.

With Vista Print, did they put their crappy brand label on the back of the premium cards?

Maybe that's just the free ones I got...I didn't get the "premium" and they sucked. Yes, they were free, but they were on cheap paper and had that logo that looked uber-cheap.

Just a heads-up.
