Giving Something Back

So far, so good. I'm watching the progress. Also, it might not be the best idea to tell us your domain name ideas until you've registered them.

I'm interested to see where this goes once you get a blog up and running. Is David going to help you choose the right plugins and ways of generating traffic or what?

Stealing a domain name off a noob is like stealing candy off a child, it's just wrong in so many ways. But I probably should of been a bit more careful.

And judging from what David's said so far in the emails, I'm pretty sure he'll help me choose the right plugins and all that. Fingers crossed!

And thanks Emp for your reply as well, I'm going to start thinking through all my content options. I'm also a little confused on the best way about it. Should I be primarily focused on promoting products throughout my written content or should it be genuine non-affiliate content and only promoting such products through advertising (banners etc.)?

I'd concentrate on writing pure content without any promotion at first, and maybe add in the odd promotional post later on.

As for the domain, posting it on here could have gotten it swiped. But I got there in time :)

Learn 2 Speak German :: nothing on it at the moment, just your basic wordpress install.

ok just an update for everyone. This isn't dead. I'm still working on the site. Well at least the content for now. I've developed 6 blogposts so far that will be put up soon that are all around 400 words.

It's all gradually getting there... =)

So it has been 3 days and all you got is 2400 words, a plain wordpress install and nothing to show?

Better step up your game.

- Choose a theme for your WP install. Tons of free themes everywhere, just choose one and install.

- Write your "about" page. Make it sound good. I never believed it, but people are looking at that shit.

- Post at least an intoductory post, summarizing what your site will be about.

go Go GO!

Hey DBWebdev, I'd love to get in on this if someone didn't respond and you don't have 5 yet. I check wickedfire and my email everyday. I'm moving to Europe in a couple of months and since I won't have a work visa I'm really determined to make AM work.

Thanks for the reply emp.

I'll get onto that now. I only found out the correct username and password for the administration section of the account today. I've also been quite busy with other things with my family (but that's irrelevant).

Also as a heads up, (I've already told David) I'm leaving tomorrow morning on a holiday for a week with my family. So I'll be going hard at it when I come back.

I'm also waiting for a complete outline from David on the processes that will be involved in setting up this blog, as we've recently discussed, that will give me a direction to follow.

Yea Tyler, there is one more space as someone else dropped out. PM me your email address.

It's interesting that zmxn73 is actually the furthest ahead as well. The other 3 are still in the process of choosing a domain, or writing the first few posts so I can assess their writing style.

I'm following your advice aswell emp about trying to really push them, so I'm emailing them every day for updates - I'm pretty much being a pain in the arse and nagging the hell out of them. There's not really much else I can do except do all the work for them which would defeat the objective of the challenge.

Another Update

Well it's time for another update, here's what each guy is doing so far in order of how much work's been done from top down...

zmxn73
This guy is putting in the time so far, and is the only one who's actually wrote any content.

cPanel®

EDIT: I think the fact that I gave him the FTP login details the other day, and the current lack of a WP installation aren't a coincidence. It was there last time I looked!

He's just gone on holiday for a few days so I'm not expecting anything major from him over the next few days. When he gets back he'll be installing a wordpress theme himself (I could do it in a few seconds myself but the aim of this challenge isn't to do everything for the noobs).

He has also wrote a few blog posts which I'm happy with. Despite the fact that this guy has done the most work, I'm still wanting more. I'm expecting the current level of effort to be the very least that I should be seeing right now, and nothing less.

It all starts to go downhill from here. I'm waiting for a sample of content so I can see what it's like and I've been very generous in giving an extra day to get this done.

Gregsdca

www.fastfithealth.com

Again, nothing except a domain name. I spoke to him again today and I've been given an ETA of 24-48hrs for a sample of some content. I'm wondering if some of the people that are taking part really have time to build even a simple blog?

TylerDurden and ItsYoBuddy

These two guys have only just signed up so nothing to report except that they are choosing a domain name.

uwstudent

No progress at all with this guy. I haven't received anything from him except a PM to tell me his email address. No idea what's happening, perhaps he's out of action or something? People can just disapear online sometimes, and I've tried emailing and PMing him.

The story so far...

It's not looking fantastic right now, I'll be the first to admit that. My initial attitude was that if the noobs really wanted this, they'd be coming to me and I shouldn't need to email them all the time.

However, since emp said further up in the thread that noobs need a right good hand hold, I've been getting on people's back with emails and instant messenger. I don't care if people think I'm nagging them, it's tough love.

I'll keep at the whole emailing thing until I get some responses.

Just an update for my part-

I'm writing some content now and will have something to show in the next 24-48 hours as well.

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty fucking busy now, but I AM working on this.

Brilliant idea, shame I missed this because its perfect for me since I am newish! if others were to run alongside of this would you be willing to provide advice if we asked for it too? (I would pay for my own domain and hosting etc and be happy to post reports).

Either way, its nice to see this. Also, I am just starting out on Facebook ads, so I would be willing to post my campaigns (after they have ran) so people can critique them, say what's bad and good etc. Reckon that might help others here?

If there is a spot to open, I would gladly accept. Also, I have the funding for the project. I just need the guidance.

@Joshua: If you provide your own domain and hosting, yea you can take part and bug me on MSN etc.

kaltes: Same to you.

Also, I found out they learn2speakgerman.com isn't working. My entire VPS has gone down, and has been for a couple of days. I am so pissed off, this is the third time something like this has happened in the last month.

If anyone can reccommend a reliable VPS where this doesn't happen, I'll be moving.

Yeah - I will give this a go if you want. I'm online more than anyone and will work on this about an hour a day.

Right, from now on, anyone who wants to participate can do - but they will need to provide their own domain name and hosting (I'm not Santa Claus).

Furthermore... there will be an entry requirement: you must produce 10 200-300 word blog posts (these will be added to the blog once it goes live, so make sure it's on a subject that you're happy blogging about).

I know people say "yea I want to do it", but let's see who really wants to do it. I'm not considering you as being part of the challenge until you've done that.

Now let's see how many people want to take part. All those who said "I want in", you know what you need to do. Get cracking.
