Last time I heard a Glen Beck rant, he was a staunch republitard and sounded suspiciously close to Hellblazer in ideals...

Now he's begging Libertarians to let him join the L club, and to be forgiven for his past insults. (Like when he called Ron Paul supporters "Terrorists.")

Of course I'd like to see him go much further and embrace anarchy, but in the scheme of things this sounds like good news, because he's likely to pull a bunch of mainstream republitards over to libertarianism.

He even says he's learning about libertarianism now from his buddy Penn Gillette!

(Sorry, can't embed.)

How this guy retains an audience when he can't even retain a set of ideals is beyond me. Oh well, better not knock it...

The whole vid is kinda fascinating, but it gets really good at the end. No I'm not going to start listening to this noobie often, but I do appreciate the fact that he's there pushing the mainstream republicans toward liberty... Kinda like kindergarten for the idea of liberty.

So, the question I put forth to you: Is he really starting to like this liberty thing, or is he simply pandering to the new, larger userbase in america as the republican party flails?

He's refurbishing his brand to become whatever helps Glenn Beck make more money. Like any flailing brand, he's been banished to the bottom shelf and wants to get back to his old spot at eye-level.

Flailing?! His company is on track to pull in something like $100 million this year.

He's doing to to use his horrid reputation to make libertarians look bad. Glenn Beck is a fucking piece of shit.

libertarians make libertarians look bad:

I don't think Glenn Beck was being disingenuous, or is doing this for monetary reasons.

In this segment he attached many Republican sacred cows (war on drugs, military industrial complex), and in the past he has been open to libertarian ideas. Judge Napolitano frequently on his show when he was with Fox, and Glenn Beck asked him to be his replacement. And Napolitano certainly doesn't shy away from libertarian ideas:

I was talking to my Dad earlier today (whom I would consider to have libertarian leanings, but largely due to Fox News is still a bit of a Republican apologist) whom has slowly been, especially from talking to me, opening up more to libertarianism. He mentioned to me that he heard Glenn Beck's monologue and how he found himself agreeing with this monologue more than what he is used to hearing and plans on supporting Rand Paul in the next primaries.

Regardless of your opinion on Glenn Beck, if he'll help convert libertarian leaning Republicans over to the libertarian cause, that should be seen as a good thing.
