Got this Mail from Namecheap.
It's not often that we would disagree publicly with a competitor, but we at Namecheap are very disturbed by this video of a competitor killing an elephant for sport. Check out the ABC News Report (Warning: Very Graphic!)

We've decided to throw our support behind our Elephant friends by offering domain transfers at a price where we actually lose money.

Show your protest by saying BYEBYEGD again and transfer your domains to Namecheap for $4.99 for the next 24 hours through 11:59pm EST on 3/31/11 (limit 10 per user, valid for all com/net/org domains).

On top of that, we'll donate $1 for each transfer to Save The Elephants at Save the Elephants - Home

Use coupon code BYEBYEGD and let's help the Elephants together!

Regards,
Team Namecheap

Here is TIME's take.

That's a smart move on namecheap's behalf, I would like to move my domains over but I just read some bad thiings about namecheap service recently. Although not shooting an Elephant bad and I I've always despised godaddy even before the fun kills.

I love animals, but lol! Gotta love the rock music

I should also add that the elephant wasn't killed for "personal enjoyment" like they say on the news, so I don't see what the big deal is. Yea it's fucked up, but that's the realities of life. The elephant was killed because it was stomping out all the crops they need to survive. You can't really go "hey yo Elephant, knock that shit off foo"

I would like to move my hosting from 1and1 to liquid web, but I just read some bad things about liquid web service recently. :D

No, that's why the farmer wanted the Elephant killed. The CEO of Go Daddy was certainly there for the sport of it. I highly doubt he kills elephants primarily as a humanitarian effort.

I'm not judging him; just pointing that out. He was definitely there to kill elephants (sounds worse than "go hunting," doesn't it) for fun.

Seriously, who gives a shit. Hunting happens, especially in Africa. I bet people wouldn't care if it were villagers hunting hyena because they are killing people. And the same people that are whining about Parsons shooting an elephant are probably meat eaters anyway.

Whoever edited that video is a retard, and Bob Parsons is a jackass. How could you possibly think putting a video up of you shooting elephants is a good idea?

Eating dead animal flesh = killing live animals for sport - that's what you implied, isn't it?

Bob Parsons has gone mad and the GoDaddy PR dept is asleep at the wheel. I don't know how they could have possibly thought this would be a good move. I don't give a shit about sustainable hunting but I don't like sport hunting/fishing at all. African elephants are far from endangered, but this just looks bad.

That being said, the only good thing NameCheap has going for it is cheap whois protection, which of course internet marketers love, but which means sweet F all if you're not trying to hide your identity. GoDaddy consistently has cheaper prices on transfers, registrations and renewals than NameCheap. I LoL at anyone using their domain registrar's hosting for their sites. That's not even a criteria I would consider when registering domains so it's a moot point for me at least.

TY, +Rep.

Been waiting on a transfer discount code for a couple months.

I honestly don't understand why someone who owns a business would attach their business name with a hunting trip. That's probably the most retarded thing you could do with a multi-million dollar business.

Unless you're subscribed to their discount domain club, you consistently get screwed on their renewal prices unless you happen to find a promo code at the right time.

I had bought the clubs membership for 3 years and came off it a few months back and wound up spending about 40% more than I planned to because none of the promo codes worked and they wouldn't let me transfer the domains out because it was within the 7-day window.

Godaddy likes to rape people on renewals. They'll get you in the door at a discounted 1st year rate, but screw you over with the renewal price and then if you happen to decide you want to keep a domain you let go over the grace period when you had domain auto-renew off, they'll stick it to you for $80/domain to get it back. Yeah, I had that happen to me for a client's domains they decided they wanted to keep and wouldn't pay me the $240 after they found out.

Also, GoDaddy's interface is extremely annoying. Namecheaps was too until their recent upgrade.

You don't have to be a member of their discount club, you just need to have a few domains with them (100+ maybe) to get assigned an executive account manager and to get the discounts applied when they do the renewals for you. There are also two coupon codes that have worked for years for .com registrations and renewals for less than $8 which is less than the discount club I think. They used to be $7.49 but I think it's $7.99 now.

Don't let your domains expire and then change your mind and you won't get as raped for $80. If in doubt better to pay the $8 even if you don't use them. You have the regular window in which to renew without penalty but if you go into the redemption period you have to pay, which I think is the norm anywhere isn't it? Does Namecheap not charge to recover domains 30 days past expiration?

I don't know why people complain about GoDaddy's interface. I think their domain and DNS management interfaces are great. I hear bad things about their hosting interface but I've never tried it.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying GoDaddy is awesome and I know there are nightmare stories out there about them. I just don't think all the hatred people spew about them is well thought out but instead the cool thing to do and Namecheap is the current registrar du jour.

The elephants were destroying crops and they used its body in whole to feed people. WTF is wrong here?

Sure, he did it for sport, but he also killed the right kind of animal. One that was causing problems and that would be eaten, not wasted.

Yea, it certainly doesn't look good for him lol

They woulda been way better off dumping a couple of sacks of rice off to this village. I am an avid sportsman and have no issues with what he did but to release this is pretty retarded. Unless they think working off of the "any publicity, is good publicity" camp but I am pretty sure that wasnt the intent.
