Anyone here know of a good, free content spinning software? Or is it something that is best purchased?

No one who's in this business is here to give shit away. Besides even if there was a free one, don't be a cheap ass. Spinned articles sound like shit even with some of the best tools out there, let alone if you go cheap or free.

I'm not looking to make this thread as buying thread. But I need to answer your question.

YES! It's a fresh, legal and working license with regular updates and access to the support forum as well. Already 2 months since the 1st people bought it on the other forums.

Even if you pay $84 for The Best Spinner it's worth it. It's the most refined spinner you'll find. It all depends on what sort of standard you want though:

It's the best if you plan on proofreading and spending a few minutes choosing the synonyms you want. Most of the free online spinners do a terrible job and rarely come out making any sense -- You have no control over synonym changes, they just spit out random word changes that mess up the entire article you're spinning.

I have no problem paying for spinning software if it works, was just curious if any are profoundly better than others.

The Best Spinner is definitely "profoundly" better than others out there. But that's why you pay for a yearly membership with it. The software portion is basically free (you pay $84 a year for your registration). The synonym data is updated practically every time you log into the software.

I'm not a fan of spun content, but The Best Spinner is way more polished when compared to other popular software like Majic Article Writer -- I've tried it and also free spinners which do nothing.
