Reread that and ask yourself what the real problem is. If the government is already subsidizing and guaranteeing the loans to begin with, why not cut out the middle man that is charging the extra fees? Read up on the Student Loan Scams that have been going on in the industry to see why something needs to be done. Sallie Mae is as bad Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with the housing bubble.

Not saying this is the answer, and certainly not saying I trust the govt to run anything efficiently, but if a system isn't working, something needs to be done. Still shouldn't have been attached to the health bill though.

No. It means that for profit lenders on federally guaranteed student loans are going to be gone. Not sure how you arrived at the idea that cpa offers might be coming from that.

The private student loan lenders will still be around even if the reform passes.

They'll just have to offer more incentives to colleges and their studen loan advisors to push students towards their loans rather then the federally backed ones from the government.

This is why there's such hatred toward the health care bill and the democrats. It's mostly not about health care but a bunch of pork barrel bullshit they're trying to push through under the sheepskin of health care so they can call anyone who calls them on their bullshit as heartless bastards.
