Using google's keyword tool I found a phrase "how to verb nouns" (verb nouns representing my actual phrase). Avg monthly search is 1,600 and competition is low. It pertains to a craft requiring some special tools and there are some good $15-$20 books to be found on the topic. I know this is pretty vague, but am I on the right track here? Maybe a landing site with book reviews?

1. 1600 is pretty low volume
2. $20 book will give you shit in commissions - plus you don't know the conv rates

In short you are probably wasting time & money especially if youre doing ppc

I only look at keywords with a mininum of 5000+ (prefer 10k) average searches a month with less then 30k direct competitors. If there are fewer that is even better. I also prefer low CPC. If my keyword meets all my requirements except for the low CPC, I try to find another keyword with similar searches and direct competitors but with a very low CPC.

As justthinking said.

Go for keywords that generally have 5-6 digits in them, unless they're the sort of long tails that you know people already have the credit card out for, like "purchase <specific item> <local area>", and hope it doesn't have much competition.

Books are perhaps one of the most purchased things online, simply because there are good discounts, and you're not going to be able to out do Amazon, unless they're the sorts of books Amazon aren't carrying... in which case, you need to ask yourself why it isn't, and who in their right mind would buy them.

Keep in mind "How To Verb Nouns" is just one keyword. So while it only has 1600 a month, you may be able to pick up more with related searches for the same niche.

Now, the $20 book will give you very little commission on amazon, but maybe look through CJ.com for some related products, or maybe build a content site and try adsense (although adsense kinda blows these days. But if you're a Noob, it may be a good place to start as you learn to optimize your site for SEO).

Also, you could write your own ebook explaining how to verb nouns and sell it for $10-$20 and keep it all yourself. Of course, if you can't write/pursuade, you would need to hire someone to do it for you...
