So I started exploring google adwords. for a keyword i happened to come across it gets ~6,000,000 global monthly searches, ~1,000,000 local monthly searches, and advertiser competition is high.

so i go and type that keyword in google and i see no ads. wtf?

perhaps because it's 3 AM, and this keyword apparently has something to do with some children's tv show, affiliates aren't running ads now? or is there something more to it

just found another one, gets 13 million global monthly and 2-3 million local monthly. says advertiser competition is high. i search for the name in google, and i see only one ad. wtf?

if i mess around and let google suggest some similar ads i might get a few different ones, but never more than one.

does that really mean that no advertisers are bidding on this keyword, despite that competition is supposedly high? did i just win the lottery here?

or is it because it's 3 AM, people aren't running ads?

wow here are some thoughts..
1. Others have already tested it does not convert, low payout, no affiliate partnerships.
2. Converts well during the daytime only.

Perhaps all of the advertisers bidding on it in a different geographical location? Like if you're in Canada, and everyone's bidding on "what to do when audited by IRS", it's very likely you won't see many results on Canadian side.

And what the guy above me said. Day-parting is an important part of campaign analysis. But if a keyword has that much volume, there's always bound to be newbs who don't track their stuff. So I'm going with my first reason.
