FFS. You don't know what you are talking about so you ought to STFU and quit trying to offer advice here.

Printed newspapers might be in decline, but there are more magazines in print than ever before, not to mention billboards and transit advertising (buses, taxis, subways, planes, shelters, stations and terminals). It's a nice trade off. I'd rather my ads were seen in glorious full color than crappy black and white anyway.
 
Print ads are a very hit-or-miss type of advertising.

My real estate office sank $30,000 into local newspapers , with only a few thousand in returns.

Lots of older people cling to newspaper/magazine forms of advertising.

IMO , many types of print advertising is going out, but there are MANY extremely effective types of print/physical advertising that are golden (Look at bandit signs).

Billboards are another EXTREMELY profitable form of advertising, some get 1 million "Impressions" a day on major traffic ways.
 
G fails a lot. They can just afford good PR.

So, if print media does finally die as so many pundits have been proclaiming very loudly, I wonder where we'll be required to publish our DBA announcement. I just went through that again recently (first time since I started IM) and started thinking about the little details of a world without print newspapers.

Something to think about with papers like the NYTs talking about going online-only.
 
I am actually surprised they gave up on this. I thought Google would jump in and find a way to make print profitable.

Print is dying though. I have a lot of traditional agency experience and budgets for print are going down the drain. 2 reasons for this are:

1) Print ads are crazy expensive.
2) Results arent as good for the buck as other media (especially internet)

This is not to say there is no money to be made....in fact with everyone pulling print budgets, there may be some cheap inventory for affiliates to buy and bank on.
 
Also many print mediums aren't discounting, even in times like this. Ive tried to negotiate, even recently with my offline business...

Depending on what your advertising I think it could be very profitable. Like it was said above, older people tend to be the ones who read printed publications, especially the smaller city newspapers.

Look at it from their view point though. They have an absolute minimum cost, and it's a lot more expensive than any electronic media.

They can't afford to have and ad cheaper than the cost of printing and placing, because if they do it for one person ,they need to do it for everyone, and then they're basically paying for your ad to be in there print.

I have a lot of sympathy for newspapers.
A lot of them really missed the writing on the wall.
My local rag is doing ok though, because of the extra non-news content they slam in the roll up as a little extra magazine.
 
I was pretty sure google print ads would never work. Electronic media is quickly taking the market, and as the new generation becomes the majority, printed media will fall into some serious problems. Today's 20-30 will soon become the future's 40-50, and we have been raised to read online news channels.

I have no idea what your newspapers look like, but ours are hilarious. Sales have dropped so much, that every single newspaper has 2-3 mini magazines inside on a certain theme, specials, extras, 1-2 movie DVDs. The Sunday editions literally weigh over a kilogram.
The only ones still making serious numbers without those silly tricks are a gossip yellow rag, a naval business one, and a "clubs and events" magazine.
