Hey,

Another newbie question :( . I run a blog that offers sponsored reviews. I don't use any service like PPP or ReviewMe, it's all privately done. However, when I do write the sponsored post I use say "(This is a sponsored post)" before and after the post. When Google did their big PR drop to everyone awhile ago, I was one of their victims. Went from a PR 4 to a PR 0.

So now I just went through all my sponsored posts and turned "(This is a sponsored post)" into an image (it looks like text). The category is named "Sponsored Post" as well, so I changed that and the perma-URL to "paid-plug".

Is there a good chance that I'll get some of the PR back?

I would normally say your avatar should reflect your attitude on this one. But, PR is usually a factor when determining the price of sponsored posts. Your image idea is a good one... but I would guess the words SPONSORED POST aren't what is at fault here.

Instead, I would imagine Google is able to figure what websites have ordered sponsored posts in mass quantities because a huge amount of links with the same or similar anchor text turned up around the same date. Sites linking TO this page might be viewed as "linking to a bad neighborhood" and getting penalized for that.

I don't know. I have no experience with paid posts. I am merely speculating. Let us know how the image change works - it sounds like a good possible remedy for the problem at hand.

Thanks for your reply and opinion. My niche is actually really small, and most people in it aren't web-intelligent so there's not many sites on the topic. For that reason, I don't think that a lot of sites linking to the buyers site could be a possibility.

Thanks for your link to that. I don't think that Google has this technology yet, do they? And if they do, I'm sure there will be tons of holes in it and people will be bypassing their new technology.
